A 17-year-old boy has died after his car overturned at a petrol station in East Sussex.

The incident happened at around 5pm on February 14 at the Applegreen refuelling stop in New Town, Uckfield.

Members of the public who were passing by tried to help the boy and emergency services performed CPR.

However, the teenager – who had been driving the grey Audi A3 – died at the scene.

He has not been identified.

An 18-year-old who was in the front passenger seat did not receive any injuries.

Sussex Police said officers were still trying to establish what happened ahead of the boy’s death.

Detective Sergeant Rosie Newman, of the force’s Serious Collision Investigations Unit, said: ‘Our enquiries to establish the exact circumstances of this tragic incident are ongoing.

No other vehicles were involved.

‘Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones at this extremely difficult time.’
