Champions League round-up: Liverpool beat Lille, Barcelona win 5-4, and Aston Villa lose
Goals from Harvey Elliott and Mohamed Salah helped Liverpool defeat French side Lille on a busy night in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Salah opened the scoring for the Reds before Lille were reduced to 10 men with Aïssa Mandi shown a second yellow card after the break.
Despite having a player sent off, Lille pulled level via Jonathan David, only for substitute Elliott to grab the winner in front of a delighted home crowd.
The most exciting match took place over in Portugal as Barcelona defeated Benfica in a nine-goal thriller thanks to a 96th-minue strike from Raphinha.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, squandered their opportunity to all-but secure their place in the last 16 as Unai Emery’s side ended up losing 1-0 at Monaco.
Borussia Dortmund lost 2-1 away at Bologna in a damaging result while Juventus’ clash at Club Brugge ended in a 0-0 draw.
