One Direction star, Liam Payne, tragically died, aged 31, after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last week

Liam Payne’s devastating death is being treated as ’inconclusive’.

The One Direction star tragically died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina last week. Police and prosecutors continue to investigate the tragedy involving the 31-year-old at the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires last Wednesday.

A post-mortem examination has determined that the dad-of-one died from multiple injuries after the fall from the balcony of his suite.

However, lead investigator, Prosecutor Marcelo Roma, has called for histopathological, biochemical and toxicological studies to be carried out, to confirm whether the much loved star was drugged and intoxicated.

With results expected to take between 10 to 15 days, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office is currently treating his death as ’inconclusive’, it has emerged, reports the Mail.

In heartbreaking scenes, Liam’s father, Geoff, was seen reading the many messages of condolences for his son next to a candlelit shrine outside the Casa Sur hotel in Argentina at the weekend. The devastated dad had travelled to South America for the recognition of the body and to arrange its repatriation. Liam’s funeral is expected to take place next month.

The star’s body is hoped to be flown home this week “back where he belongs” with his family, as Geoff refuses to leave his son’s side. A source said: “Liam’s loved ones just want him home, back where he belongs among his family. As they await the pathologist to finish their tests, behind the scenes, they have been tackling the logistics about how best to get his body back to the UK. There are no direct commercial flights between Buenos Aires and London, but naturally, they want the flight to have the least stops and interruptions possible. But Geoff is determined to accompany his son home.”

One reported consideration is to charter a private jet, although very few have the range capable of flying the 6,915-mile journey on one tank of fuel. Details about Liam’s repatriation to the UK came as thousands of fans from around the world gathered to pay tribute to the star. Fans, or ‘Directioners’ as they are called, came together in London, New York, Paris, Stockholm and Colombia to mark his tragic passing.

As they marked his death, they brought flowers, messages of support, and played songs from the boy band. Fans gathered in London at the Peter Pan statue in Hyde Park and the Tuileries Garden in Paris. One Direction fan, Ellie Markham, 23, travelled to Hyde Park from her home in Brighton. She said of the late star: “I just wanted to be here to pay my respects and let Liam’s family know all Directioners are thinking of them. He will forever be in our hearts.”
