Two people who were stabbed in separate attacks at Notting Hill Carnival last weekend have died.

Cher Maximen, 32, died this morning after she was stabbed at around 6pm at the carnival in London on Sunday, August 25.

She was rushed to hospital after receiving emergency treatment from police officers at the scene.

And last Monday night, 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu was found unconscious with a head injury outside a restaurant in Queensway. He died from his injuries in hospital on Friday, the Met said today.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with Cher’s attempted murder.

Shakiel Thibou appeared at Westminster magistrates court on Wednesday, and he’s next set to appear at the Old Bailey on September 25.

He was also charged with possessing a knife in a public place and public disorder.

Following Cher’s death, the charge will be reviewed by police and the Crown Prosecution Service.

The court heard she was attacked while trying to intervene in a fight which had broken out amongst the crowd.

She suffered severe injuries including a collapsed lung and it was feared both of her legs may have needed to be amputated.

Cher was attending the ‘family day’ of the Carnival with her three-year-old daughter and other family and friends.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila said: ‘My thoughts are with Cher’s loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.

‘They are being supported by specialist officers and we will make sure that support continues.

‘Cher was at Carnival with her young child. We have been in close contact with our local authority partners and Cher’s family since soon after this incident to make sure the child is safe and looked after.’

Detectives are appealing for the public’s help to piece together the movements of a man who was attacked in the vicinity of Notting Hill Carnival on Monday night. At 23:22hrs on Monday, officers who were deployed as part of the Carnival policing operation became aware of a man who was unconscious with a head injury in Queensway, W2. They provided emergency first aid until paramedics arrived. The man, who officers are taking the unusual step of naming as 41-year-old Mussie Imnetu, is critically ill in hospital. A woman who was stabbed at Notting Hill Carnival has sadly died. Shortly before 18:00hrs on Sunday, 25 August, officers deployed in Golborne Road, W10 as part of the Carnival policing operation became aware of a woman who had been stabbed. The officers gave emergency medical treatment until the arrival of paramedics. The woman, who was later identified as 32-year-old Cher Maximen, was transported to hospital in a critical condition. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, Cher died on the morning of Saturday, 31 August. Recognising the seriousness of her injuries, detectives from the Met?s Specialist Crime Command took on the investigation in the hours after Cher was stabbed. On Tuesday morning they arrested Shakiel Thibou, 20 (29.05.2004) of Masbro Road, W12.

Thibou’s two brothers, Sheldon Thibou, 24, and Shaeim Thibou, 21, appeared in court alongside him after both being charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.

Sheldon Thibou faces an additional charge of possessing a stun gun.

All three were denied bail.

Omar Wilson, 31, appeared at Westminster magistrates court on Friday charged with causing Sweden-born Mussie grievous bodily harm with intent.

The Met and CPS will also review this charge.

Wilson was remanded into custody and will next appear at Southwark crown court on September 27.

Mussie had been visiting the UK on business from Dubai where he lives and works as a chef.

He had been visiting The Arts Club, a private members-only club in Mayfair, who say Mussie has worked under celebrity chefs including Gordon Ramsa, Marcus Wareing, and Alain Ducasse.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie said: ‘Mussie’s family, friends and colleagues in London, Dubai, Sweden and Eritrea are inconsolable after receiving the worst news imaginable, our thoughts are with them and they are being supported by specialist officers.’

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: ‘It is heartbreaking that Cher Maximen and Mussie Imnetu have died after being attacked in separate incidents over the bank holiday weekend.

‘My thoughts are with their families and friends at this truly terrible time.

‘This violence is shocking, completely unacceptable and a betrayal of the values that (Notting Hill) Carnival was founded to celebrate.’
