Public warned after razor blades found under far-right extremist stickers at train station

British Transport Police are urging the public to report any findings of stickers advertising a far-right extremist group after a razor blade was discovered hidden underneath one in a train station.

British Transport Police have urged the public to be vigilant after a commuter discovered a razor blade hidden underneath a far-right extremist sticker at a train station.

Images of the stickers and blade were shared on social media by the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers. They wrote: "It has been brought to our attention that dangerous stickers have been discovered at a railway station that, once removed, have razor blades stuck to them. Please take extreme care and do not attempt to remove them."

The stickers, which have National Front branding with the initials ’NF’ and the slogan ’Rights for Whites’ on them, were discovered near Dunton Green train station, a small village in the Sevenoaks District of Kent. A member of the public located it and discovered a razor blade hidden underneath. According to reports, the sticker was found affixed to a light fitting in the tunnel.

Local authorities have warned the public that there has been "an increasing level of far right propaganda" in the village, but urged people not to panic. The appearance of the sticker comes amid a rise in far-right activity across the UK, following a stabbing in Southport on Monday, which saw three young girls killed and several more injured at a dance class.

Online misinformation spread claiming the attacks were committed by a Muslim asylum seeker - which was not true.

Responding to the finding PC Nick Hubbard told My Community Voice Kent: "On Monday 29th July 2024, police were alerted to a concerning event near to Dunton Green train station. While it’s important not to incite panic, it’s crucial to raise awareness about this issue.

"I would urge everyone to remain vigilant. If you come across any ’hate-inspired stickers’ in public places, please do not attempt to remove them yourself.

"Instead, immediately notify the police. The sticker in question was located near a school, highlighting the potential danger it posed. Fortunately, no injuries occurred upon its discovery."

After being shared online Chief Supt Chris Casey, Commander for British Transport Police and South East England, urged: "If not already, please do encourage your members to report the details to BTP. Text 61016 or 0800405040. This is sadly a known tactic used by some extreme groups. Thank you."

Other people responding to the images were horrified. One user replied: "A child could get seriously hurt, post the CCTV footage to name and shame." And someone else wrote: "I am absolutely gobsmacked. Just when you think they couldn’t sink any lower they out-do themselves and plummet further. it’s so obvious they know they’re wrong because the intent is for removal of their bigotry only to injure someone who rightly disapproves!" And another user simply added: "That’s so scary."
