UK supermarkets recall burger buns over metal contamination fears
Brennans, Connell Bakery and Johnston Mooney and O’Brien products are being pulled from the shelves
The Food Standards Agency has issued a recall for burger buns sold in shops across the UK, as they may contain pieces of metal. The manufacturer, Johnston Mooney and O’Brien, is recalling various baked products due to the potential presence of small metal fragments.
The agency has deemed the buns ’unsafe to eat’. These bread products are sold under several brand names.
Johnston Mooney and O’Brien is taking responsibility for the recall. Notices will be displayed at all retail stores selling these products, explaining the reason for the recall and advising customers on what to do if they have purchased any of the affected items.
Customers who have bought any of these products are advised not to consume them. Instead, they should return them to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
When there is an issue with a food product that renders it unfit for sale, it may be ’withdrawn’ (removed from shelves) or ’recalled’ (customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to inform consumers and local authorities about food-related problems, reports Kent Live.
In some instances, a ’Food Alert for Action’ is issued, providing local authorities with specific actions to take on behalf of consumers.
