Rishi Sunak is moving out of Downing Street after resigning as Prime Minister following the Conservative Party’s devastating defeat at the General Election

Removal vans were spotted outside No10 this morning as Rishi Sunak moves out of the prime ministerial accommodation.

The ex-PM was dramatically ousted after the Tories suffered a devastating defeat at Thursday’s General Election. Mr Sunak will continue to lead the Conservatives ahead of a party leadership contest.

Mr Sunak has lived in No10 for around a year and a nine months, after becoming PM in October 2022 after the disastrous tenure of Liz Truss. On the steps of No10 on Friday, he game an emotional speech in which he apologised to the nation and accepted their verdict.

"To the country, I would like to say first and foremost, I am sorry," Mr Sunak said. "I have given this job my all, but you have sent a clear signal that the Government of the United Kingdom must change. And yours is the only judgment that matters. I have heard your anger, your disappointment, and I take responsibility for this loss."

After losing 250 Conservative seats, Mr Sunak is expected to move home to his mansion in the North Yorkshire village of Kirby Sigston. He retained his Richmond and Northallerton seat, winning 23,059 seats, despite some pre-election polls suggesting he could be at risk.

Keir Starmer entered No10 with with Vic yesterday after making a victory speech on the steps of Downing Street. He was applauded by in house staff as he walked through the historic door.

The new Prime Minister welcomed his team one by one as he appointed them to his Cabinet. Mr Starmer headed back to his north London home in the evening and is understood to move into No10 in a few days due to practical reasons.

Angela Rayner, who was appointed Deputy PM and Housing Secretary, entered No10 for only the second time in her life. She has returned again on Saturday as Mr Starmer chairs his first Cabinet meeting in No10. Ms Rayner is likely to increase her tally of No10 visits quickly.
