Horror as car crashes into McDonald’s, leaving man with life-threatening injuries
Police said one man was injured following the Doncaster incident, with another man arrested after the car broke through the restaurant wall
Footage has captured the horror moment a car ploughed into a McDonalds, leaving customers terrified after it broke through the building’s wall and one man with life-threatening injuries.
Emergency services were called to the fast food restaurant on Thorne Road, Doncaster after a white Vauxhall smashed into the busy restaurant on Saturday afternoon. South Yorkshire Police officers responded to the shock incident, with Firefighters, Yorkshire Ambulance Service, and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance spotted by onlookers.
According to emergency services, one 31-year-old man was arrested, and another, 37, was taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries. Pictures and a video taken at the scene show the small car after it punched a hole in the side of the building.
The rear end of the car can be seen protruding from the side, with police officers standing inside and inspecting the disaster. In a statement released on Saturday afternoon, police said they were forced to evacuate the entire restaurant - which is now closed - following the incident, and McDonalds said it is unsure as to when it would reopen.
A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: "We were called around 4pm today to reports of a road traffic collision at McDonalds on Thorne Road, Doncaster
"It is reported that a white Vauxhall Astra collided into the side of the restaurant building. Officers have attended, supported by officers from British Transport Police, and the fire and ambulance service."

"McDonalds has been evacuated as a safety precaution. A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. A 37-year-old man has been taken to hospital where his injuries are thought to be life-threatening."
In a separate statement, a McDonalds spokesperson said the company is assisting police with their enquiries and offering support to people working at the location at the time. They said: "We are aware of an incident that occurred at our Thorne Road, Doncaster restaurant.
"We are supporting the police with their ongoing enquiries and we will be offering support to our people who were working in the restaurant at the time." The restaurant involved in the crash is closed, and the firm does not know when it will reopen.
