Meghan Markle and Prince Harry won’t be returning to the UK later this month for King Charles’ birthday as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex haven’t been invited

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been left off the invite list for King Charles’ birthday, according to reports.

The monarch will be celebrating his birthday at Trooping the Colour on June 15. Charles will be attending the event with his wife Queen Camilla, with the couple set to arrive in a horse-drawn carriage.

Buckingham Palace is yet to confirm which royals will appear on the balcony for the RAF flypast at the event. It’s also unclear if the Princess of Wales will attend following her cancer diagnosis, but it’s believed Meghan and Harry definitely won’t be there.

A source has told People Magazine the couple haven’t been invited to the monarch’s birthday celebration for the second time in a row. Last year’s Trooping the Colour was the first one to take place during King Charles’ reign.

Harry and Meghan attended Trooping the Colour in both 2018 and 2019. The event was scaled down in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event was instead held for the late Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle without a large gathering of family members.

In 2022, Meghan and Harry travelled to the UK for the Trooping Colour but didn’t join the Royal Family on the Buckingham Palace balcony as they had done in previous years. Instead, they watched the festivities from a room above Horse Guards Parade along with other non-working royals.

Buckingham Palace said at the time: "After careful consideration, the Queen has decided this year’s traditional Trooping the Colour balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the Royal Family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the Queen."

Trooping the Colour traditionally sees more than 1,400 parading soldiers, 200 horses and 400 musicians come together to mark the Sovereign’s official birthday. This year’s event will take place on Saturday June 15 from 10am until 12.25pm. There is a flypast scheduled to fly over Buckingham Palace at 1pm.

This year’s event will be slightly different to previous years. While the King will still take part in the procession, he will ride in a carriage rather than on horseback amid his ongoing cancer treatment.
