Christina Applegate has hit back at critics who made a comment about her appearance on social media.

The actress, 51, took to twitter to share the message she had received from a member of the public, accusing her of having plastic surgery.

Christina received the message after attending the Critics Choice Awards with her daughter Sadie Grace LeNoble, 11, on January 15.

Taking to twitter, Christina wrote: "Sooooo I made the unfortunate decision to look at some comments on an article from People mag about me and my kids at the CCA. Of course I told her that it wasn't nice. This was her reply. What is wrong with people. By the way, I laughed."

"And a bad plastic surgeon at that."

However, not everyone agreed with the sentiment, with Christina’s fans rushing to the comment section to offer their support.

The actress announced her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in August 2021, with the Critics Choice Awards being her first award show since she opened up about the illness. She attended the event after receiving a nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series, for her role of Jen Harding in the Netflix series Dead To Me.

At the time, she tweeted: "So this Sunday will be the first awards show I have been to since 2019. And the first since MS.

"NERVOUS! But grateful to the @CriticsChoice for including me."

Two months prior to the awards show, Christina made her first public appearance since sharing her diagnosis, attending the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony where she was honored.

Speaking to Variety , the event had originally been scheduled for 2020 but had been postponed.

She said: "Now my life is a different story. People are going to see me for the first time as a disabled person, and it's very difficult. So, for me, two years ago would have been so much better! But maybe this time it's more poignant. I don't know."
