A teenage girl has died after a crash on the A14 near Bury St Edmunds.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 1.30am on Monday, after reports of a collision with a lorry on the westbound carriage.

The 16 year old was tragically pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of paramedics to save her.

The fatal crash occurred between junctions 44 and 43 of the road.

The A14 was closed in both directions until 11.40am today.

Police are urgently appealing for witnesses with any more information that could help with their investigation.

A spokesperson for Suffolk Police confirmed: ‘The incident occurred on the westbound carriageway between junctions 44 and 43 at around 1.30am this morning, Monday 15 April.

‘A 16-year-old girl was involved in a collision with a lorry and sadly died at the scene.

‘The road was closed in both directions until 6.40am when the eastbound side reopened. The westbound carriageway was reopened at 11.40am.

‘Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision and asking any motorists driving in the area at the time of the incident with a dashcam fitted in their vehicle, to review the footage for any material that may be of assistance.

‘Anyone with information is asked to contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team at Bury St Edmunds Police Station, quoting reference: 37/20659/24.’
