Witnesses have told how the scene unfolded

A suspected oxygen tank leak at a sewage plant has sparked an emergency response - with fire engines rushing to the scene.

Cops scrambled to a sewage plant in Plymouth at 9.35am this morning following reports of a leak.

They have been joined at the scene by at least two fire engines - with the road outside the plant closed in both directions.

A witness told the Plymouth Herald: "Fire engines and police. Can’t see smoke. Two fire engines from what I can see.

Another locals said they saw a "mass gathering of fire trucks and police cars at the sewage plant".

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "We are currently in attendance at the sewage works at Wolseley Road, Plymouth, after reports of a possible oxygen tank leak."

A police spokesperson said that emergency crews are assessing the leak.

There is not thought to be any danger to the public at this stage.
