’Demented’ Trump ’incapable of doing the job’ as psychologist spots 4 signs of Donald’s dementia

A psychologist has made it his mission to diagnose former President Donald Trump with dementia, sending around a petition to medical and mental health professionals as he calls Trump ’demented’ and compares him to the ’Wizard of Oz’

The psychologist who created the viral petition for medical and mental health professionals to diagnose former President Donald Trump with dementia compared the businessman to the Wizard of Oz as he said Trump is "demented" and "incapable of doing the job."

Amid the dozens of gaffes the former president has made at rallies over the past several months and even years as he pushes for a second term in the White House, Dr. John Gartner took it upon himself to warn the public of what they might be getting themselves into as the Republican frontrunner is slated to face off against incumbent Democrat Joe Biden — who has made his own fair share of gaffes during speeches and public events.

"Trump is very manic. He’s got all this energy and charisma," Gartner told TheMirror.com. "But actually, he’s more like the Wizard of Oz. He appears strong, but pay no attention to that demented man behind the curtain. Once you pull that curtain away and people see him for who he really is, not strong but so cognitively weak, I would say he’s no longer just unfit for the job — he’s now incapable of doing the job."

Gartner, a psychologist who used to work as a part-time assistant professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, said Trump simply "does not have the mental capacity to understand the job," adding that he could be "easily manipulated by virtually anyone." That’s exactly what Putin is counting on, another expert told TheMirror.com, as Putin hopes to secure Trump another term so he can walk all over his "incompetence."

So, Gartner created a petition on Change.org, restricted only to medical or mental health professionals, which he titled, "We diagnose Trump with probable dementia: A petition for licensed professionals only." It was shared widely across social media by Gartner and his political action organisation, Duty To Warn, which was created to serve as a "warning NOW about TrumpISM."

"Nobody with the right letters after their name was stepping forward to correct the misimpression that the press has been giving us," Gartner said of the reason he created the petition, referencing media reports that have been reluctant to address the former president’s mental condition, instead favouring ragging on Biden and his advanced age and cognitive decline.

"I think the press has been gaslighting us. They’ve been telling us two lies — they’ve been pathologising Biden’s normal memory lapses while normalising Trump’s gross signs of dementia," he said. "I felt this narrative was false and that it needed to be corrected. Someone had to step forward, and no one was, and so I was called, as it were."

He said he "retired" from politics about a year ago, stepping down from his prominent role in Duty To Warn to focus on a psychology book he’s writing and enjoy his senior years.

"I know there are thousands of other medical professionals who are doing what I’m doing, and they’re screaming at their televisions," he said. "I needed to give them a platform. I needed to give them a vehicle to express what they know and what they see to a public who is being gaslit."

Many have risked their professional careers and faced real retaliation for coming forward to sign the petition, he said, with friends telling him that they were passed up for promotions or that they feared being fired for signing.

"These are medical whistleblowers," he said. "In my mind, they’re heroes because each of these people took a professional and personal risk to put their name out in the public to sign this petition.

Signs of dementia in Trump

Gartner listed four signs of dementia he and other experts say they’ve noticed in the former president — language use, memory fallacies, behaviour and motor performance.
