King Charles left London for emotional heart to heart with ’beloved daughter’ Kate before cancer news

King Charles - who was also recently diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer - travelled to London to speak with his "beloved daughter-in-law" about her own struggle with the disease

King Charles and the Princess of Wales had a major heart to heart just hours before she went public with the bombshell announcement that she had been diagnosed with cancer.

Charles was also diagnosed with a form of the condition earlier this year. He travelled to console his "beloved daughter-in-law" Kate on Thursday in London after she had recorded her moving message to the nation, but before it aired on Friday evening. The Princess had wanted to speak with the monarch to learn about his own struggle and to see how he’d been coping.

It’s understood the royal pair also spoke of how Kate said in her video that the discovery was a "huge shock" but that she knew she would "be okay". A source said of the Windsor Castle get-together: “It is highly unusual for just the two of them to sit down together like this. The King had already been made aware that the woman he calls ‘my beloved daughter-in-law’ had cancer. They would have had lots to discuss and share because just weeks earlier the King had begun his course of treatment and dealt with announcing his diagnosis.

"The King left his lunch feeling very emotional. They are very close and he thinks of Catherine as his daughter. There is no doubt there is a lot they can share and can use each other for support during their own deeply personal cancer battles.”
