Meghan Markle has taken the next step in her career and launched her brand new business American Riviera Orchard.

The luxury brand is said to have been in the works for more than a year and will feature things that are "close to her heart". American Riviera Orchard is a lifestyle and cooking brand which will coincide with a new cookery show for Netflix.

Meghan's new project has been dubbed The Tig 2.0, after the Duchess' now-defunct lifestyle blog. Meghan ran the blog for years before she met her husband Prince Harry and posted recipes, travel tips and personal anecdotes. She shut down the site in 2017 - just months before her engagement to Harry was announced. Here, we've taken a look back at some of Meghan's most candid posts on The Tig.

In 2015, Meghan recalled the day her life had changed forever. At the time, she had just auditioned for a TV pilot for a show called A Legal Mind, which would go on to become the hit legal drama Suits.

The Duchess of Sussex was a struggling actress and was desperate to land the role, but she thought she "blew it". Meghan recalled telling her agent: "I kept forgetting my lines, I was distracted, and I blew it. Which sucks because I really wanted this one. I really like Rachel."

Writing on The Tig, Meghan said: "I went home and ate my feelings (likely some iteration of bread and cheese – pizza, quesadilla, it didn't matter) because I wasn't in a place to be able to let it go. I wanted it, and I lost my shot at it. Or so I thought."

Luckily, Meghan had impressed the casting team and she was invited back to audition in front of network bosses. She then said: "I had no idea that this late August morning of 2011 would change my life. That I would get the part."

Gushing posts about now-estranged dad

Meghan has become estranged from her father Thomas Markle Snr in recent years, with the pair not having seen each other since before her wedding to Harry. However, their relationship hasn't always been so strained.

In a Father's Day tribute on The Tig, Meghan admitted she had many fond memories with her father. "Our club sandwich and fruit smoothie tradition post my tap and ballet class - classes, which by the way, he religiously took me to on Saturday mornings after working 75+ hours a week as a lighting director."

She touched on fishing trips they went on and said he committed to making sure her school musicals had the best lighting they they "felt as grand as a Broadway show". She also praised Thomas for how much he invested into her future "so that I could grow up to have so much".

At the end of the post, Meghan wrote a gushing note to her father, penning: "To my dad - my thoughtful, inspiring, hardworking Daddy - Happy Father’s Day. ‘If I had all the water in the world, I’d give all the water to you…’ (You won’t get that quote, but he will. And for Father’s Day, that’s all that matters)."

In a separate post, she wrote about the heart-warming Christmas present he once gave her. Meghan explained how Thomas had visited Toys R Us to buy a boxed set of Barbie dolls which she had been yearning for. However, the dolls only came as either a black family or a white one, something which didn't reflect Meghan's family.

Faced with a tough decision to make, Meghan explained how her father "broke the rules" and took the boxes apart to make a custom family. "On Christmas morning, swathed in glitter-flecked wrapping paper, there I found my Heart Family: a black mom doll, a white dad doll, and a child in each color. My dad had taken the sets apart and customized my family," the Duchess of Sussex wrote.

She added: "I picture him standing there in Toys R Us, moms glaring at him for taking the toys apart, perhaps an employee saying 'excuse me sir, you can’t do that' — as my dad carefully separated the boxed sets to make one that echoed my reality. One that showed me that I should (and could) make my own box."

'Unladylike habits'

Fans could definitely relate to Meghan's New Year's resolutions post as she admitted she struggled to give up some "unladylike habits". She wrote: "Run a marathon. Stop biting my nails. Stop swearing. Re-learn French. These make my New Year’s resolution list nearly (AKA actually every) single year.

"The marathon hasn't happened. The swearing comes in lulls triggered by being overworked or feeling mighty cheeky after a couple of drinks." She then admitted to losing her interest in speaking French when she "immersed myself in speaking Spanish" when she lived in Buenos Aires.

Finishing her post, she joked: "And when it comes to the biting of the nails – well, it still happens with a turbulent flight or a stressful day. It's unladylike. But then again, so is the swearing. Dammit."

Princess Kate criticism

Meghan wrote about "the pomp" surrounding Princess Kate and Prince William's wedding - seven years before her own royal wedding. She also admitted she had grown up dreaming of becoming a princess.

"Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power." She-Ra: Princess of Power was an 80s TV show which followed the adventures of Princess Adora (She-Ra), Prince Adam's (He-Man's) twin sister.

Meghan continued: "We're definitely not talking about Cinderella here. Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate."

Meghan 'always felt like she never fitted in'

Meghan revealed she had finally found true happiness on her 33rd birthday. Her secret? Being "kind" to herself. The Duchess of Sussex blogged about how "brutal" her 20s had been and said her teenage years were even worse.

Meghan told fans she struggled to "fit in" and spent most of her high school lunches doing extra curriculum activities so she could avoid sitting alone in the canteen. When she entered her early 20s, Meghan said she struggled with "judging my weight, my style, my desire to be as cool/as hip/as smart/as 'whatever' as anyone else".

Her breakthrough started when she was 24 and a casting director advised her to wear "less makeup" and be "more Meghan". It was a mantra that she would carry through with her - be "more Meghan".

How her mother inspired her

Meghan makes the same wish for her birthday every year after being inspired by her mother Doria Ragland. Writing in 2016, she said: "My mom has always said that birthdays are your own personal New Year. Your own chance to make resolutions just for yourself and what you prognosticate for your year ahead."

Meghan wishes for the same thing - "more surprises, more adventure, more opportunities to grow, more days filled with giggles and cheeky jokes, more delicious meals, and more inspiration".
