Mohamed Salah has previously been labelled as "selfish" by a number of famous faces associated with Liverpool, but his latest remarks suggest he is anything but.

The Egypt international will forever be viewed as a Reds legend for what he has done at Anfield since arriving in 2017. Salah has played a vital role in guiding the club to both Premier League and Champions League titles, as well as FA Cup and Carabao Cup triumphs.

The current campaign sees Liverpool compete in the Europa League, European football's secondary club competition after Jurgen Klopp's men missed out on the top four last term. As a result, Liverpool have been able to deploy younger talents than they would have in the Champions League.

Salah has kept a close eye on the academy graduates looking to burst onto the scene and establish themselves further against Sparta Prague on Thursday evening. He has also shed light on how he aims to help the next generation of Liverpool talents.

"The main point is try to talk to them and show you really care about them before you give advice,' the 31-year-old explained. "If you just give out advice, without showing that player you really care about them, they wouldn't really listen.

"But, if you show you really care a lot about him and tell him he can achieve big things, that he can be great in there, that he just needs to do a small thing to change it, then that can work. He's a human being so he isn't going to change everything in one day.

"So the most important thing for me is to show the player that I really care about them - which I do - then after that it's easy to communicate, it's easy to get them under your arm and just keep talking to them."

Despite his heartfelt advice to his team-mates, Salah has been accused of being the source of frustration for his colleagues at times at Liverpool.

Salah's new Liverpool role speaks volumes after 'selfish' dig at Liverpool starGraeme Souness has previously labelled Mo Salah as one of the "most selfish players he's ever seen" (@talkSPORT/Twitter)

Back in 2021, Reds icon Graeme Souness claimed: "He is perhaps as greedy a player as I have seen. All the top names have an element of that but he is extremely selfish.

"Personal targets are important to him and he shoots from every possible angle, which frustrates his team-mates at times — especially [Sadio] Mane. The other players accept it because he is so good."

Souness isn't the only one to make such a claim. Salah's former team-mate Roberto Firmino echoed a similar sentiment at the back end of last-year. An extract from the Brazilian's book read: "I don’t know if he was aware of it or not, but Salah used to frustrate everyone when he didn’t pass the ball.

"I knew how to handle that situation better than most. Klopp addressed this issue in front of all of us: when a teammate was in a better position, the ball had to be passed. It was a clear hint aimed at Salah."
