Christie Brinkley shares skin cancer diagnosis as she posts graphic photos
Christie Brinkley has revealed her cancer diagnosis to fans in a graphic social media upload.
The actress kept in good spirits as she shared some difficult photos with the world. In the caption, she wrote: "The good news for me is we caught the basal cell Carcinoma early. And I had great Doctors that removed the cancer and stitched me up to perfection like an haute couture Dior."
Basal cell carcinoma is a type of cancer that begins in the skin cells "that produces new skin cells as old ones die off," according to Mayo Clinic. Detecting the cancer isn't always easy, but it tends to appear as a transparent bump.

She discovered the cancer accidentally after joining her daughter to the doctor's office
She gave her doctors a shout outThe cancer is typically caused by ultraviolet radiation from sunlight. "The good news for you is that all of this can be avoided by being diligent with your sun protection," Christie wrote. "I got serious a bit late so now for this ole mermaid/gardener, I’ll be slathering on my SPF 30, reapplying as needed, wearing long sleeves and a wide brim hat. And doing regular total body check ups..that is a MUST!"
Christie further explained that her cancer was caught accidentally when she went with her daughter to a check up. After her doctor finished "looking at each freckle with a magnifying glass," she asked if he could take a look at a bump on her skin.
She explained: "I wasn’t going to say anything but at the VERY end I asked if he could just look at a little tiny dot I could feel as I applied my foundation . He took a look and knew immediately it needed a biopsy! He did it then and there! So make your own good luck by making that check up appointment today. And slather up my friends!"

The model shared graphic images on social media (Getty Images)The model sent a 'thank you' to her care team, Dr. Abraham, Dr. Anolik, Dr Geronemus, Dr Lloyd Hoffman at the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York. Her photos were incredibly graphic, not shying away from the reality of cancer treatment. In a series of selfies, she included a peek at where the tumour was at on her skin.
A small gash was shown on her face by her hair line. The doctors stitched up the area and bandaged it.
Fans flooded her comments with support. One wrote: "Ah. I am sorry. It’s a four-time melanoma victim, I feel your pain, but I know you are healthy and you will heal quickly, and I think our bathing beauty days of our youth maybe have more to do with it than what we do now but who knows right? Take care my friend."
