Keys' response to Carragher's 'unacceptable' behaviour goes down as expected
Richard Keys has slammed Jamie Carragher for an inappropriate comment he made to Kate Abdo live on CBS Sports - but his criticism of the ex-Liverpool defender has gone down exactly as you'd expect.
Carragher and Abdo were providing coverage of Arsenal's Champions League last-16 win over Porto alongside Thierry Henry and Micah Richards, with the Bootle-born pundit being convinced to pull on a Gunners shirt.
Carragher suggested Abdo should be the next to wear the top, but she claimed she was 'too loyal' to do that, prompting the 46-year-old to reply to question her relationship with Deontay Wilder's trainer Malik Scott.
Former Sky Sports presenter Keys has since delivered his verdict on the remark. He tweeted: "I think Kate Abdo is a top pro. I've no idea what Carragher is insinuating but he crossed the line again. How many more times? That show is like so many more these days - too 'pally'. It was an accident waiting to happen. Abdo deserves much better."
But Keys, who resigned from his role at Sky Sports following a sexism row in 2011, received the kind of response you'd expect. One said: "Making inappropriate comments towards women is probably a subject you should sit out, Richard." Another added: "This is irony from the top drawer from Keys. Fair play."
Carragher doubles down and insists "worst run club" Everton proved him rightThe incident between Carragher and Abdo occurred following Arsenal's penalty shootout win. Opening the conversation, he said: "You [Henry] can wear it next and for the last part [of the show] you [Abdo] have got to wear it." Abdo returned: "No, I am loyal," before Carragher fired back: "To who?"
Abdo responded: "Manchester United, thank you very much". However, that was when Carragher delivered the decisive line: "Not to Malik". Henry reacted by spinning his head in Abdo's direction and Richards didn't look impressed as Carragher laughed at his own joke.
"What? Why would you say that?" Abdo replied before Carragher attempted to explain himself. "He hasn't had a mention in the show yet, has he?" the 46-year-old added.
Many fans did agree with Key's sentiment, though, with his comment going down badly on social media. One said: "Carragher in the news again. Last night is no surprise and he should be taken off air, in all honesty, rather than continuously indulged. What he did was unacceptable and unprofessional and it's not the first time."
A second admitted: "That one friend that gets too excited and says something insane to dead the mood," while a third added: "You can feel the second-hand embarrassment."
