Teenager dies in horror tipper truck crash as vehicle falls into river

A 16-year-old boy has died after after a tipper truck left the road and plunged into a river.

Police confirmed emergency services were called to the Efailwen area of Clynderwen, Pembrokeshire, on Tuesday afternoon following a horror smash. They later announced that a teenager - yet to be named - was confirmed to have died at the scene. An eye-witness report suggests the truck crossed a public footpath before entering the river.

Due to the severity of the incident, it has also been reported to the Health and Safety Executive, the police said. A HSE spokesperson said they were aware of the incident and are assisting the police with their investigation into the teen's death.

It is understood the incident centered around a truck entering the eastern Cleddau River and happened near the disused Gilfach Quarry. A spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed the boy's next of kin has been informed of the tragic news.

They said: "Emergency services were called at an address in the Efailwen area of Clynderwen following reports of an incident on private property on Tuesday afternoon, 12th March, 2024.

"Sadly a 16-year-old boy died at the scene. His next of kin has been informed. H.M Coroner has been advised and due to the nature of the incident, it has also been reported to the Health and Safety Executive.”
