Moment knife-wielding teen chases man through clothes shop after deadly stabbing

Shocking footage shows the moment a teenager stormed into a clothing store with a machete as he tried to chase a young man to his death.

Joshua Howell and his friend Alfie Hammett, both 19, have both been handed life sentences with minimum custodial terms of 24 years and 20 years respectively. It comes after they fatally stabbed Raymond James Quigley, 18, on January 17 last year. Following today's sentencing, Suffolk Police have released a harrowing recording which documented the pair's movements before the attack.

The pair were filmed in hoodies and masks as they hunted down Mr Quigley with knives around Ipswich town centre. Police explained that Hammett ran towards the victim and knifed him, while Howell ran after one of his friends who fled to safety in a shop close by.

In another scene, Howell can be seen desperately searching for Mr Quigley's friend as he looked between the clothing rails but was unable to locate him. Hammett, who stabbed the victim at least six times, ran away from the scene of the stabbing at around 3.35pm on Westgate Street. Sadly, the victim died at the scene after he managed to stumble across the road for help, reports The Sun.

According to a post-mortem examination, Mr Quigley died from fatal wounds to the torso, chest and abdomen. Hammett and Howell were both found guilty of murder on January 26 following a five-week trial. They were also found guilty of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place. Howell was also convicted of threatening someone else with a bladed article.

Ipswich Crown Court heard that the motive behind the killing was most likely down to rivalling gangs in Norwich. It was reported that Mr Quigley was linked to a gang called ‘OTM (Only The Money)'. Hammett was connected to a rival gang named ‘3rdside’, and Howell was associated with the Nacton gang in Ipswich, who often refer to themselves as ‘IP3’.

Detective Chief Inspector Tam Burgess described the attack as a "senseless act of extreme violence". He said: "I am still staggered by the brazen way in which Hammett and Howell committed this heinous crime in such a public place, with numerous members of the public around and in full view of CCTV cameras.

“James Quigley was simply walking through town with his friends, when he was subjected to this unprovoked attack and without any opportunity to defend himself. He stood no chance." He continued: "Across the country, we are seeing too many deaths of this nature. This senseless loss of young lives has to stop."
