Anthony Kim is keeping his feet firmly on the ground despite putting together his best round of golf since making his comeback at LIV Hong Kong on Sunday.

Kim showed glimmers of his former self in the final round at Hong Kong Golf Club, carding seven birdies on the way to an impressive five-under-par 65. It was a much-needed performance for the American, who has shown plenty of rust since joining LIV Golf after 12 years away.

On debut in Jeddah, Kim finished the week rock-bottom of the leaderboard at 16-over-par, and similar followed in rounds one and two in Hong Kong, with his lengthy spell away from the sport clearly taking his toll.

The rust was cast aside in Sunday's final round, but even after looking back to his best, Kim is taking his progress one step at a time.

“It's just one round of golf," he said after his 65. "But I played the right way. I didn't do anything extraordinary. I just played like I know how to play. The scores were what they are...

"I just kept doing what I've been working on the last two months. Obviously being away from the game so long, it's been tough to practice and get all the things that I need to get prepared for the tournament, but I'm working on the right things at this moment."

After getting two starts under his belt on the Saudi-backed circuit, Kim is now turning his attention elsewhere after entering this week's International Series event in Macau over on the Asian Tour. The 38-year-old has not featured on the Asian circuit since 2011, and will play in his first world ranking-sanctioned event in 12 years.

Looking forward to the trip to Macau, the former PGA Tour star commented: "I had a great time playing on the Asian Tour in the past. These last few weeks have been a dream and a long time coming. I’m looking forward to working on my game and getting back out there.”

Kim will spend the rest of the 2024 campaign with the LIV setup, after taking up the vacant wildcard spot on the roster following the expansion of the league's fields to 54 players. And whilst it appears he will no doubt need time to get back up to pace with his fellow rivals, the opportunity is one he has enjoyed so far.

"I’m enjoying my time with my family, the LIV Golf experience has been amazing and I’m just thankful," he said in Hong Kong on Sunday. "I’m very proud. Coming from where I came from over the last 10, 12 years I am just grateful for this opportunity. Every step I walk I feel blessed and no matter what I shoot I feel like I have won.

"I never thought those words would come out of my mouth but I am trying to play this game with a lot of gratitude and live my life the same way.”
