Three people have been dashed to hospital after a stabbing in a market town today.

Emergence services have descended on Bury, Greater Manchester. A huge cordon has been erected in the town as officers continue to investigate the attack, believed to have happened just after midday.

A police spokesperson said: "Greater Manchester Police are still responding to an incident on Murray Road, Bury. Officers remain at the scene to conduct further enquiries into what is believed to be a stabbing. The extent of the injuries sustained by three victims are thankfully not thought to be life-threatening. No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information that may help is asked to call 101 quoting incident 1338 of 11/03/2024."

Paramedics dashed to the scene at approximately 12.06pm. A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) said: "NWAS responded to a police incident following a call at 12.06. Three patients have been taken to hospital."

It happened near the town's market, which runs on Mondays, and Market Hall is temporarily closed due to the investigation. It is unclear at this stage what led to the fracas. One person, who works in the area, said: "As soon as I came out, a helicopter was outside, the police were already there. It was surprising to see something like that." It is understood this was an air ambulance.

Another resident expressed their concern. They said: "Why do people carry knives around? What kind of world are we living in?" Further details about each of the victims, including their gender and age, are yet to be disclosed by the authorities at this stage. Speaking from the scene, James Holt, reporter with our sister title Manchester Evening News, said: "There is a police scene in place currently behind the market, that is due to an ongoing police incident, in which three people were injured in what is suspected to have been a stabbing earlier today.

"Investigations have been ongoing throughout the day with a number of walkways also taped off. There was a very significant police presence and an air ambulance also landed at the scene with paramedics also in attendance earlier today." The reporter shared a video of the scene of the investigation, which continues.
