Concerned student Abigail Laker thought that her pet cat was suffering from a rare breathing disorder and forked out £7,000 on vet bills just to find out that her cat is 'just a bit weird'.

The music student from Salford, Greater Manchester, fell in love with the feline, who she later named Moose, when she first met him last year.

However, when she took Moose to get spayed at her local vet, she grew concerned when she was told her cat had an unusual breathing pattern.

The vet told Ms Laker that they didn't want to carry out the spaying procedure incase Moose had an underlying health issue which was causing the fast breathing.

As Moose's irregular breathing pattern continued, Abigail grew concerned about her beloved pet and began to fear the worst.

However, after months of vet visits to figure out the issue and £7,000 later, Abigail felt a sense of relief when she was told there was in fact nothing wrong with Moose.

She said: "A specialist vet ended up diagnosing Moose, he basically told me that Moose is just a bit weird.

"Which was a relief, but it did cost £7,000 for them to find that out.

"He said they have done every test they can and Moose's breathing is nothing to do with her heart or lungs and it's probably just behavioural.

"It was a strange response but he said that she has decided she wants to be a cat who pants."

Abigail then added that it was 'typical' for her pet to be dramatic and the vet bills were worth every penny.

She explained: "It's definitely typical of her to be that dramatic and to have to spend £7,000 in bills, but all worth it to know she's okay.

"I've also always had dogs, and dogs pant, so I didn't think it was a weird thing until the vet asked me to keep track of it and that's when I noticed how much she did it.

"She has a crazy personality anyway, and I think that's a part of it."

The student, who referred to her cat as a 'menace', said that her mind has now been put to rest following the vet's conclusion.

She said: "Now I know its nothing serious, I can relax about it all.

"It's just typical dramatic Moose. I have had her for seven months and so she is was coming out of kitten stage, we realised that it's typical her and she has to be centre of attention."
