It was championship Sunday in the world of professional golf, with LIV Golf Hong Kong and the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour both providing plenty of action.

Abraham Ancer was the man who took home the £3.1 million LIV prize on Sunday morning following a tense playoff against Paul Casey and Cam Smith. At the other end of the leaderboard though, Anthony Kim was once again writing headlines after finishing his week with a five-under-par 65.

Kim's best showing since returning from a 12-year hiatus saw him defeat LIV poster boy Phil Mickelson, who endured a tough week in Hong Kong. Over on the PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy made his first move of the week in Saturday's third round but fell away in the final round.

He finished in a tie for 21st after a disastrous front nine featuring a double bogey on six. That left him well short of the leader as Scottie Scheffler pulled away from Shane Lowry to finish five shots clear and win on the PGA Tour for the first time since last year's Players Championship.

A silver lining for McIlroy

Rory McIlroy has officially won the DP World Tour's International Swing following the conclusion of the Jonsson Workwear Open at Glendower in South Africa. The world number two winning the Hero Dubai Desert Classic and finishing as runner-up at the Dubai Invitational earlier this year secured his spot atop the standings.

Final leaderboard

  1. Scottie Scheffler -15
  2. Wyndham Clark -10
  3. Shane Lowry -9

Russell Henley and Will Zalatoris tied for fourth on -7.

Scheffler wins it

Scottie Scheffler has won the Arnold Palmer Invitational by five shots of Wyndham Clark with a championship round 66 to win the tournament for a second time, first doing so in 2022. It is the American's first PGA Tour win in 12 months since another five stroke win at The Players Championship.

In a league of his own

Scottie Scheffler's putter is more than hot after another birdie on the 15th, his fifth of the final round to move six shots clear. If this form on the greens continues, Rory McIlroy may bemoan offering the world number one putting advice at the Genesis Invitational last month. The American switched to TaylorMade Spider Tour X mallet putter this week and it is working a charm so far.

Following in the footsteps of Tiger Woods

With a commanding lead midway through the back nine, Scottie Scheffler is closing in on winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational. If the American holds his nerve, he will become the first world number one to win the tournament in 14 years since Tiger Woods in 2009.

Scheffler pulling away

Scottie Scheffler has hit seven of nine fairways and back-to-back birdies on the tenth and 11th has the world number one four-under in the final round and five shots clear of the chasing pack.

McIlroy missing greens

Rory McIlroy has only hit the green three times through 11 holes here today and is having difficulty finding them from the fairway as the bogeys continue to stack up. The world number two had another on the eighth and one more on the 11th moving him to six-over for the day.

A tale of two birdies

Wyndham Clark still sits second thanks to a surprise birdie on the sixth, but is now three shots back of Scottie Scheffler after an ill-timed bogey on the ninth. Shane Lowry is up to third a shot back of Clark after responding with a birdie on the same hole.

McIlroy's final round to forget

Rory McIlroy's challenge already appears over after bogeys on the third, fourth and sixth. The latter became a double bogey after sending his second into the water rather than onto the green as the round went from bad to worse. The world number two is four-over for the day and in a tie for 23rd.

Scheffler's putting personal best

World number one Scottie Scheffler still leads by two shots and has now made nine consecutive one-putts at Bay Hill. That is the most he has made in a row across his PGA Tour career as the American puts his putting woes behind him so far at the Arnold Palmer.

McIlroy 'unpopular' opinion backed by major champion

Rory McIlroy was not afraid of sharing his 'unpopular' opinion on the PGA Tour handing out less playing cards to its members, and the idea has been backed by Wyndham Clark.

"I think it would be amazing if our Tour was a hundred guys," he claimed. "I kind of said this a few times, a hundred guys and we have 20 guys that get relegated every time, every year, doesn't matter who you are. It would be exciting."

Scheffler makes his move

Its a quick start at the top of the leaderboard!

The leaders are out on the golf course and we have had a two-shot swing already, with Scottie Scheffler making birdie at one, whilst Shane Lowry carded a frustating bogey.

Wyndham Clark and Russell Henley now found themselves two shots behind Scheffler, alongside Lowry.

Paul Casey hails DeChambeau

Paul Casey sang the praises of his captain, Bryson DeChambeau after the Crushers claimed the team title in Hong Kong.

"Well, what a great group of guys. We've got something -- we spoke briefly about it after Jeddah, that we've got something that you can't measure, and I firmly believe that.

"I've had some experience with team golf. Bryson has been a bloody good captain. And I think part of being a good captain is letting guys do what they do best in order to -- go do what you need to do in order to play the best golf. He doesn't necessarily try to control us. You get what you get. We've had some great results."

Hatton gives up on his putter

Tyrrell Hatton was back to his old tricks on Sunday at LIV Hong Kong...

The Englishman was clearly left frustrated with his putter towards the end of his final round, so instead turned to his wedge to finish off on the putting surface. Hatton ended the week in a tie for 21st at seven-under-par.

Rory wary of the chase around brutal Bay Hill

Rory McIlroy heads into Sunday's final round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with work to do if he is to win the event for a second time. He is four shots behind leaders Scottie Scheffler and Shane Lowry, but the Northern Irishman is more than aware of the dangers that lie around Bay Hill if he attempts to chase down the leading duo.

"You start chasing on this golf course, it can bite you pretty quickly," he said Saturday evening. "You start taking some more aggressive lines, start going at some pins with these firm greens and short siding yourself.

"You got to pick your spots and still be patient. I think the wind's going to be out of a different direction again tomorrow, so the wind or the golf course is going to play quite different to what it was today. We'll see what happens."

Smith fumbles £3.1m LIV prize

Cam Smith put himself in prime position to win his first LIV Golf title of 2024 in Hong Kong but fell at the final hurdle. The Australian fought his way into a three-man playoff following Sunday's final round, after carding a bogey-free four-under 66.

It was not to be for the Ripper GC skipper though, as he made a frustating bogey at the additional hole, allowing Abraham Ancer to capitalise. A birdie for Ancer ensured he was the man coming away with the £3.1 million prize, after a holding his nerve to birdie the playoff.

McIlroy risks the wrath of fellow PGA Tour stars

Rory McIlroy has doubled down on his comments calling on the PGA Tour to be more 'cut-throat' when it comes to handing out playing cards.

"I'm all for more cut throat and more competitive and trying to give pathways to the younger generation. So, through Korn Ferry Tour, through PGA Tour U, through -- like, I would rather have more of a, like, yeah, instead of -- I just feel like there's a lot of categories on Tour that people are sort of still benefiting off what they did like five or ten years ago.

"I feel like the most competitive professional golf tour in the world, you should have to come out and prove yourself year after year after year."

All to play for at Bay Hill

An exciting final round at the Arnold Palmer Invitational later this afternoon. Rory McIlroy enjoyed his best round of the week on Saturday, as he made six birdies on the back nine in his third round to move to five-under for the tournament and into the top-10.

The four-time major winner has plenty of work to do though, as he finds himself four shots behind joint-leaders Shane Lowry and Scottie Scheffler at Bay Hill. McIlroy will begin his fourth round at 5:05pm GMT, whilst Lowry and Scheffler get going 30 minutes later.

Kim beats Mickelson in Hong Kong

Whilst it was Abraham Ancer who came out on top at LIV Hong Kong, it was a day to remember for Anthony Kim. The former PGA Tour star carded a superb five-under-par 65 in Sunday's final round, his best performance since returning from his 12-year spell away from the game.

His impressive Sunday performance saw him get the better of Phil Mickelson too, who finished three shots behind his Ryder Cup teammate on the leaderboard. Mickelson endured a frustrating week, just days after the six-time major winner recorded his best finish on the LIV sertup in Jeddah.
