If the Princess of Wales thought that apologising for the confusion surrounding her Mother's Day photo would help quash speculation, she might need to think again.

Rumours and conspiracy theories continue to dominate social media channels, with a number of people questioning when the photo was even taken.

According to Kensington Palace, the photo was taken by Prince William one week prior, captured at the family's home in Windsor. But some royal watchers believe it was taken much much earlier.

One TikToker explained her theory in a video shared online. She said she believes the image was taken last year, in November, on the same day that Kate and her children visited a baby bank in Windsor.

At the time, Kensington Palace released a candid behind-the-scenes video showing Princess Kate volunteering at her local baby bank alongside Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Now the social media user, allynaston, has argued that it was also when the Mother's Day image was captured.

The basis for her hypothesis comes from the clothes worn by Kate, George, Charlotte and Louis. The poster points out a number of similarities between the outfits worn back in November, and those worn in the Mother's Day snapshot - albeit in different colours.

The Princess opted for a cream turtleneck jumper for her visit to the baby bank, which she teamed with jeans and a pair of her favourite boots. According to Allyn, the outfit appears identical with the colour of the jumper changed to navy blue.

She also points out the similar necklines between the tops worn by Princess Charlotte, who is also wearing the same boots. And when it comes to Prince George, Allyn believes he is also wearing the same outfit, with the colour of his chequered shirt altered and his jumper lightened.

"I'm kind of thinking that they probably took the day of that event, back in November when they filmed it. It didn't see the light of day until December, but I think they filmed it in November.

"But of course they're not gonna release a photo that was meant to be brand new with them all in the same outfits from a publicised event so they just kind of tinkered with it a little bit."

Despite the ongoing speculation, has of the Wales family photo. And it has otherwise refused to comment on the issue, ignoring it completely in a social media post about Commonwealth Day this morning.

On Monday morning, Princess Kate took to X to apologise for the edited snap, and took responsibility for it after a number of glaring 'errors' seemed to show it had been heavily manipulated.

As such, major photo agencies had already pulled the snap, and warned news agencies not to use it, issuing a 'kill notice'. Since then, there have been calls for the original version to be released, but now the Palace has flat out refused, only further fuelling conspiracy theorists.
