This is the horrifying moment two thrill-seekers were thrown from a fairground ride before smashing into a fence.

The heart-stopping incident was filmed by a shocked onlooker. The 10-second video clip shows The Octopus ride spinning around. But the pair then suddenly fly out of the carriage they are in. They collide with a metal fence around the ride and 30ft (10m) along the ground. The accident took place at a funfair in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, on Friday. After receiving first aid, the victims were taken to the nearby Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further medical care.

Fire department spokesperson Ordine Gilu said a team was sent to the scene after receiving a distress call at 8.58pm. He added: "Firefighters, including Emergency Medical Response Service officers, arrived at the scene minutes later. They provided first aid to the injured victims before they were taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment.”

There have been no further updates on the victims’ current condition. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Last year, eight children were among those hurt after the roof of a merry-go-round swing fell to the ground at a funfair in Russia. Riders, sitting in swings which were held by the roof, crashed into the base of the ride and surrounding ground. Screams from terror-stricken riders were heard by witnesses and in footage. Bystanders dashed to pull the wounded out from under the collapsed flooring of the mangled ride in Orenburg, Russia.

But three of the riders, including a 10-year-old girl, are in a serious condition. Doctors are preparing to operate on the youngster, whose condition was described as "extremely grave". A 27-year-old woman was also in a "grave" situation at the time. At least 12 people have needed treatment in hospital in total while the further eight have escaped with minor injuries.

The fairground opened in Orenburg, which is in southwest Russia, just one week ago, reports claim. The park’s director Timur Shogenov insisted prior to the accident his rides were safe. “There is no need to worry. It is all safe. All rides are subject to state checks and technical certification," he said at the time.
