Liverpool boss Klopp takes aim at Stuart Attwell after VAR failure proves costly
Jurgen Klopp insisted Liverpool were robbed of a stonewall penalty which could have put them in pole position in the title race.
Manchester City substitute Jeremy Doku kicked Alexis Mac Allister in the chest as he tried to clear the ball but referee Michael Oliver did not give it and VAR Stuart Attwell did not overturn the decision for a clear and obvious error. Liverpool boss Klopp was left bemoaning the officials as the draw at Anfield left Arsenal as the real winners as they are now top of the Premier League.
Klopp said: “Why would the guy in the VAR studio think that is not clear and obvious, what must you have for lunch to think that? And if we win today what are we, four points ahead of City, that is not a distance that you should fall asleep. And Arsenal.
“But whatever I think now will not change that. I tried to explain to your colleague who said yeah but we have a high bar with VAR, always an explanation. I think everyone in this room thinks if he whistles a penalty it is not a scandal.
“He kicks the chest, yes he touches the ball, it is not a red card obviously but I speak so often about it, I really don’t care. Nothing what I say will change that so would love to use one of the massive chances we created.”

Klopp added: “Arsenal is firing on all cylinders. City is City and for us it is like how did we get through that and still there, it is crazy with all these games and the squad situation.

“Today I saw the best 53 minutes we had against Manchester City because it was exceptional and important as well that we learned that about ourselves as well.”
“It’s obviously not the title-decider, and I said after this game probably nobody should be opening the champagne bottles because it’s a long way to go for all of us, but this is a performance which really showed. OK, if you can play football like this against Man City that’s a statement and I love it.”
