Ralf Little has been open about his future on BBC show Death In Paradise.

The much-loved actor stars as Neville Parker in the BBC detective drama series Death In Paradise. At the start of this latest series, Neville returned and lead the Saint Marie police team, who faced a major challenge when their Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (played by Don Warrington) was assassinated during his celebrations for making it through 50 years with the police force.

Fans had been concerned for Selwyn, but he ended up being OK. Whilst it looks like the Commissioner is staying for good, Ralf has been open about his own future on the show, having become the longest-serving detective in the drama.

During a recent Instagram Q&A session, he admitted: "I don't know. I have no idea, I'm not gonna swerve answering the question. I don't know. I don't know which direction they're gonna go in.

"I have honestly no idea and they haven't told me. Maybe they had no idea yet. I, like the rest of you, are going to be just sitting and asking, 'Who's next? Who knows? No idea. But we'll see what happens."

Ralf hinted that in this new series the residents and characters of Saint Marie will face even more "challenges". He explained: "We're going to try and pick up with the tone of the end of last year. We really tried to push the boat out in series 12. It was not just a mystery every week and solving the mystery and moving on, but really trying over the course of a series really trying to find challenges for the main characters, to try and find things for them to overcome, emotional things."

Neville was framed for murder last series and before the new series, he teased that more trouble will appear at Neville's door this year. He said: "We took a bit of a leap with that last year and it worked out really well and people seemed to really enjoy it and we felt that we made a really good show, so there's going to be more of that this year and more challenges for the characters."

Whilst he hasn't confirmed if this is it for him on the show, he did explain in a pre-series interview that it was a "bonus" having been in the show for so long. He said: "Episode sixty nine was my first as DI Neville Parker. The bulk of it was already there. But the idea that I'd be able to do another thirty one episodes on top of that to reach one hundred is astonishing.

"If I'm really honest, I was just hoping to get to the end of the first series and for everybody not to hate it. Everything after that was a bonus! At the risk of sounding like a footballer going, 'It's all about the team', these personal milestones are lovely to reach and they're incredibly satisfying. But it is all about the show, the people loving it and everyone working together."

He added: "For me to have been here and be lucky enough to lead a stellar cast and be trusted with this legacy is something I can't believe. I thank my lucky stars every day and feel like I’ve won the lottery."
