Ariana Grande seemingly asked her fans to stop attacking her ex-husband Dalton Gomez over the lyrics of her new song, 'Eternal Sunshine'.

Eternal Sunshine was named after Jim Carey and Kate Winslet's 2004 film, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which follows a couple that breaks up and decides to forget about each other through a medical procedure. Fans started hitting out at the singer's ex on Friday morning when the song was released.

The lyrics say: "I've never seen someone lie like you do, so much even you start to think it's true. Get me out of this loop, yeah, yeah. So now we play our separate scenes. Now, now she's in my bed, mm-mm, layin' on your chest. Now I'm in my head, wonderin' how it ends."

Ariana also sings she got "played like Atari" but adds she has now found a "good boy and he's on my side", which seems to be a reference to her new boyfriend, Ethan Slater. After the song came out, her fans started to blast Dalton on social media with one writing on X: "'I showed you all my demons, all my lies, yet you played me like Atari' DALTON GOMEZ YOU ARE NOT SEEING HEAVEN."

Another tweeted: "DALTON GOMEZ I’M UNDER YOUR BED." One more wrote: "i don’t wanna see her like this literally ever again dalton gomez you will never have another peaceful sleep in this lifetime i promise you that." And one more wrote: "getting with ariana after the worst years of her life and making her finally feel like she found true love and was healing only to cheat on her and be a horrible husband… dalton gomez i hate you so much."

But the social media attacks went a bit too far, according to Ariana, who asked her fans to stop sending "hateful messages" based on their interpretation of her new album. She wrote on her Instagram stories: "Hi, I just wanted to say, anyone that is sending hateful messages to the people in my life based on your interpretation of this album is not supporting me and is absolutely doing the polar opposite of what I would ever encourage (and is also entireli misinterpreting the intention behind the music)... I ask that you please do not.

"It is not how to support me. It is the opposite. Although this album captures a lot of painful moments, it also is woven together with a through line of deep, sincere love. If you cannot hear that, please listen more closely. Thank you. I love you!!!"

While she did not mention her ex-husband Dalton explicitly, it seems the message was about him since he received so much hate online over the past couple of days. Ariana and Dalton got engaged in December 2020. The couple tied the knot at an intimate ceremony at their Montecito home in May 2021 but sadly went their separate ways after less than two years of marriage. It was all over almost as quickly as it had begun and Ariana filed for divorce in September 2023.

Now, Ariana has introduced fans to her new man - thought to be Ethan - in the fifth track of her new album and continues on the second, Supernatural. The song is about a brand new relationship and how it feels out of this world. She talks about how she just wants to be around this man.

The passion of the song then goes into lust and intimacy as she talks about wanting to be "claimed". The chorus completes the song: "This love's possessin' me, but I don't mind at all / It's like supernatural / It's takin' over me, don't wanna fight the fall / It's like supernatural."
