West Ham fans slammed Kalvin Phillips after his performance against Burnley on Sunday, where he was hooked at half time.

The England international, who joined the Hammers on loan from Manchester City in January, started in a midfield three alongside Tomas Soucek and James Ward-Prowse. However, Phillips struggled and could have done better in the build up to the opening goal as Burnley took the lead.

David Datro Fofana squeezed beyond Nayef Aguerd and Phillips with ease before blazing the ball into the top corner. Burnley doubled their advantage, before David Moyes made a double change at the break, with Phillips and Ward-Prowse making way for Edson Alvarez and Michail Antonio.

It ended a disappointing overall performance from Phillips, who completed just 22 of his 28 passes throughout, and the West Ham fans could not help but issue their frustration at the on loan midfielder. One even went as far as saying that Phillips might be one of their worst-ever signings...

One said on Twitter: "Kalvin Phillips is so, so, so bad. Nobody did any due diligence on that transfer."

Another wrote: "Kalvin Phillips hooked at half time trailing 2-0 against Burnley. Been awful since going to West Ham. Surely Southgate won't take him to the Euros [Euro 2024] this summer?"

While a third said: "I know it’s stating the obvious but just how bad is Kalvin Phillips? He has been atrocious and should be nowhere near our starting 11. Terrible player. A disaster." A fourth admitted: "My God Kalvin Phillips is awful, imagine if he gets in the England squad."

A fifth posted: "Kalvin Phillips is one of the worst footballers I’ve seen play for West Ham." And a sixth fan did not hold back, writing: "Kalvin Phillips might be the worst player we have ever signed. Diabolical."

A seventh supporter said: "I understand why Phillips was on the bench for city for so long. Shouldn’t be starting games for us."

Another angry Hammer claimed: "Indulging in the signing of Phillips was a terrible decision He's obviously a good lad who wants to play football but he's not even half the player he was at Leeds & Alvarez's performance embarrassed him JWP needs to be on the bench too with Paquetá at CAM & Antonio at CF."

West Ham were much improved in the second half and pulled a goal back almost immediately after the interval as Lucas Paqueta halved the deficit. The Hammers huffed and puffed throughout the second period and eventually found an equaliser in stoppage-time as Danny Ings bundled home.

The game finished 2-2 as the Hammers settled for a point in their bid for a European spot. Reflecting on his side's performance, manager Moyes told Match of the Day: "We probably looked a bit hungover from the game on Thursday night but we certainly came back into it. We missed a load of chances at the end."

He added: "Players have their own pride and they showed it in the second half. They showed they cared and valued the support that comes here. I thought they'd done it in the second half.

"We had to find a big dose of enthusiasm right from the start. But we need that in the stadium as well. We need everybody to get behind us. They got behind us in the second half, it made a good difference."
