Conor McGregor's 4-word verdict on Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul fight speaks volumes

UFC legend Conor McGregor is among those who aren't impressed with Mike Tyson and Jake Paul 's fight announcement.

Boxing icon Tyson will face YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in a boxing match on July 20 in Texas, it was announced earlier this week. There is a massive 30-year age difference between the two fighters and it's unclear if the fight will be professionally sanctioned or will go ahead as an exhibition bout.

McGregor said of the fight: "Oh jeez. It's a bit strange. The interest is low. I don't know. I don't understand it. I wish well for Mike." McGregor wasn't the only big name in combat sports to dismiss the bout as Paul's bitter rival KSI wrote: "50+ years old. No one wanted this... So sad to see man.

McGregor's longtime teammate Dillon Danis wrote to Paul: "You're fighting someone who was born in 1966. Have some shame." Another UFC legend in Michael Bisping also told the social media star: "You should be ashamed of yourself ad the biggest joke is you don't even slightly realise why."

Paul knocked out unknown boxer Ryan Bourland last weekend in his 10th professional fight and he fought as a professional boxer for the second time on the undercard of Tyson's last bout, an exhibition against Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020. The mega-fight will be shown on Netflix, which marks the streaming giant's first venture into airing live combat sports.

"Whether you’re team Paul or team Tyson, or whether you’re a lifelong boxing fan or watching your first fight, you’re not going to want to miss this event. I have a chance to prove myself against the greatest heavyweight champion of the world, the baddest man on the planet and the most dangerous boxer of all time. Time to put Iron Mike to sleep," Paul said.

"He's grown significantly as a boxer over the years. It will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a 'kid' can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. It's a full circle moment that will be beyond thrilling to watch; as I started him on his boxing journey on the undercard of my fight with Roy Jones and now I plan to finish him," Tyson said.
