Sharing a picture of her beloved mum to celebrate Mother's Day, Lorraine Kelly was full of praise as she gave fans a health update on her mum who the TV star said is living with a "tough" illness.

Back in July last year, the TV host, 64, revealed that her mother Anne was taken to hospital in Scotland to help deal with a diagnosis called nephrotic syndrome, which is a condition that stops the kidneys functioning properly. Sharing a picture of her mum holding up a glass of white wine on Sunday, Lorraine captioned the post: "Happy Mother’s Day to my brave lovely mum - coping with a tough illness and still able to (occasionally) say cheers! and always living each day to the full! #love #mothersday #brave #inspiration."

And fans wasted no time commenting on her heartfelt post. One person said: "Happiest of Mothers Day to your mum not forgetting you." Another person added: "Awh so precious, happy Mother's Day lovely Lady." Meanwhile a third commented: "Awww looks lovely." And a fourth said: "Bless her, still looking amazing . Happy Mother’s Day to you & your wee mum xx." [sic]

At the time Lorraine's mum was taken to hospital, the TV personality shared with fans her gratitude towards those working for the NHS. She tweeted: "Having spent a lot of time over the past few days with my mum in @UHMonklands hospital I’ve seen again just how kind, caring, hard working, funny and downright fabulous our NHS workers are. Thank you doesn’t begin to cover it."

And once again fans took to social media to send messages of support. One said: "Sending you lots of love and hugs xx." Another added: "Sending best wishes." While a third tweeted: "Sending healing thoughts about you and your mum. God bless you all."

Earlier last year, the star opened up about her mother's health in an interview with Hello! magazine. She explained: "She had been experiencing symptoms such as swollen legs for a while and then suddenly took a turn for the worse. It was a worrying time for the whole family, and she was diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome, a condition that stops the kidneys functioning properly."

She added: "The doctors and nurses could not have been kinder, but mum just wanted to get home. And once she did, she improved." In order to be close to her work in London, Lorraine left East Kilbride in Scotland but her mum still lives there. Taking her mind off her mum's illness, it looks as though the star has been an avid viewer of Celebrity Big Brother and was quick to address a huge blunder on a recent episode of the ITV show.

Earlier this month, Fern Britton was mistaken for her. In an awkward exchange, The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Lauren Simon asked Fern about her book on James Martin's Saturday Morning show - but it was actually Lorraine who had appeared.

Lauren said: "I think I saw you, was it you that's written a book with um, what's the chef called, Martin, I'm sure it was you." However, Fern was quick to respond: "No, I write novels..." to which Lauren said: "I'm sure it was you, something to do with diving and the sea, not you?" Clearly confused, Fern then realised Lauren's mistake and said: "Oh no, that's Lorraine Kelly!"

Addressing the blunder, she said: "I've never been... so she [Lauren] was getting me mixed up with Fern? I don't know why, it's bizarre! Fern did not look that happy about it to be fair: 'Hang on a minute, that's not one of mine [books]!'", she added of the clip: "Oh that was so silly!"
