Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has shared his thoughts on Nicholas Lyndhurst having joined the cast of the sitcom's much-anticipated revival, which is currently in the works.

The actor, 67, will reprise his role as radio host Dr Frasier Crane in a new series of the show. It had originally aired from 1993 to 2004 and was launched as a Cheers spin-off.

It was announced last year that a revival was underway for Paramount+. It has since been revealed that Only Fools and Horses star Nicholas, 61, will play a new character in it.

The news was discussed by Kelsey during an interview earlier this morning, with him praising his co-star and teasing over the upcoming revival of the beloved sitcom.

Kelsey said: "We have the magnificent [Nicholas] joining the cast. [We] met doing Man of La Mancha about three years ago at the [London] Coliseum and fell in love basically."

He further told BBC Radio Bristol : "I adore him, he's one of the funniest people I've ever worked with." The actor added that his co-star Nicholas is a "very, very gifted man."

Discussing the new role, Kelsey said that Nicholas will be playing "an old friend" of the title character. He said it's a relationship that fans haven't really seen on the show before.

Kelsey commented: "It suddenly occurred to me when we were putting the show together, we've never really seen Frasier in a relationship where he has a great friend."

Teasing over the revival, Kelsey said in the interview that viewers will see Frasier "still discovering himself". He added that it's what he finds "interesting to play".

The character Frasier first appeared in sitcom Cheers, which aired from 1982 to 1993. He was given his own self-titled spin-off, which launched in 1993 and ran until 2004.

The show saw the psychiatrist return to his hometown Seattle, where he became a radio host. It introduced a number of new characters, including Frasier's family.

Nicholas is best known for playing Rodney Trotter on Only Fools and Horses. The sitcom had aired during the same period as Cheers and Frasier, running from 1981 to 2003.
