Mikel Arteta is relaxed at the prospect of watching title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City collide on Sunday after Arsenal returned to the Premier League summit.

The Gunners knew that victory over Brentford at the Emirates would send them top of the league with the teams above them playing each other on Sunday. And although they left it late, Arsenal got the job done against the Bees, beating them 2-1.

Arteta's men are now one point clear of Liverpool and two clear of the reigning champions ahead of their grudge match at Anfield. And the Spaniard is ready to sit back and watch Arsenal's title rivals attempt to take points off of each other after watching his team bounce back from a horrendous error from Aaron Ramsdale which threatened to spoil the Gunners' day.

Speaking post-match to Sky Sports, he said: "A really tough opponent to play and we had the game under control at 1-0 but we conceded and then had a beautiful challenge in the second half. We were so aggressive and got rewarded.

"Mistakes are part of football and it's how you react to that. I'm so happy for Aaron [Ramsdale] and I'm so happy that we won the game. You have to win every game with the level of Manchester City and Liverpool. There is no space for slip ups. We really had to respond to the challenge in the second half and show our maturity. We were emotionally really mature.

"The whole game the way the fans reacted and the way they push the team is amazing. It is a joy to be there and enjoy a football match with your supporters.

"The hardest thing in elite sport is to do it every three days. The willingness amongst the group is really special. I will have a relaxed Sunday."

Ramsdale looked forlorn as he left the field at the break after he was caught out by Yoanne Wissa for Brentford's goal. And his team-mates not only spared his blushes, they rallied round him in the dressing room.

Match-winner Kai Havertz told Sky Sports: "It wasn’t nice especially when you concede so closely to the whistle. But we all spoke with each other then and made sure we rallied around each other because I don’t think we’d deserved to concede but mistakes are part of the game.

"I had a few mistakes that could’ve led to goals so we wanted to turn it around, spoke to each other and showed a good mentality."
