News has emerged that has given an insight into the reason This Morning host Cat Deeley seriously considered a move back to the UK after 14 years living in the US.

The 47-year-old mum of one who is married to presenter Patrick Kielty revealed that her husband and son Milo were in a shopping centre when a gunman caused havoc while wielding a gun. Patrick and their son Milo, who was three at the time, were at Shake Shack in 2019 when emergency sirens started sounding off. On the back of this ordeal, Cat made the firm decision to make plans to return to the UK and continue her career as a presenter.

In an interview in 2020, Cat explained: "Everyone was told to lie behind the counter or pushed into the loos. People were screaming and crying. Then, as they were all hiding, the FBI turned up with guns. Paddy kept Milo calm — he didn’t really know what was going on."

She added: "As I was driving, I began to see helicopters, news vans, firemen and armed police response squads. It makes me go funny now. It was terrifying. Paddy was shaken by it, more than Milo, who didn’t properly understand. The gun laws in America are crazy."

The Sun on Sunday managed to find out details of the horrific attack and it's believed it was carried out by a disgruntled ex-Amazon employee named Nicholas Oates who was fuming over poor pay and conditions while working for the multi-million pound company.

Nicholas, 26, set fire to books in a nearby shop and then pointed a gun at an employee before fleeing from the scene. He was soon arrested the day after the attack and following the legal process, was sentenced to seven years and four months in a state prison after pleading no contest to arson and assault with a firearm.

When approached by a reporter from the publication, he declined to comment but said: "Jeff Bezos and Amazon do whatever they want regardless of how anyone feels about it. Worrying about that now is a futile waste of time."

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore described the situation as creating "terror in the minds of hundreds of shoppers." Now, the Cat will take over from Holly Willoughby and is set to co-star on the popular daytime TV show alongside former Good Morning Britain star Ben Shepherd.

Speaking of her landing her new role she said: "This Morning is a national institution. Whenever it's on, it's like having your friends over - funny, smart, silly, heartfelt, informative and joyful - like all the greatest friendships! This Morning is and always will be the viewer's show. Ben and I both know how much people love it and with the help of an amazing team of people, we're going to do our best to take care of it."

And her new co-host Ben Shepherd, who said an emotional goodbye to his co-stars on Good Morning Britain, added: "This really feels like a very special moment for Cat and I to be part of the next chapter of This Morning. It's an honour to be trusted with the reigns, join Alison and Dermot and all the team that work on and off screen and do such a great job. For the last ten years, I've been waking up with our ITV daytime audience on GMB and I now look forward to spending time with Cat, welcoming the viewers home after the school run or from their early morning routines, with a cup of tea and a mix of everything that makes This Morning so loved."
