Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway viewers were left in tears as one viewer was given a gift from his late wife from beyond the grave.

The Madcap weekend gameshow has been on the air for 20 years and sees show hosts, Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, both 48, give away all manner of prizes to their live studio audiences and also to some lucky viewers watching at home. As part of the show, the hosts hold a segment called the ‘Happiest Minute of the Week’ where huge prizes are given away to members of the audience and viewers at home.

During the latest episode of the long-running show, cameras cut to a home in Dunfermline, Scotland, where a viewer named Jordan Lark was watching the ITV show with his two young children. Dec addressed Jordan, telling him he was live on national TV and that he was one of the winning viewers of the week.

But viewers were left overwhelmed by emotions as Dec explained Jordan’s wife had nominated him for a prize before she suddenly died. The host explained: “Hi Jordan! You’re live on Saturday Night Takeaway. Now, Jordan, we know you recently lost your wife Sade very suddenly leaving you as mum and dad to your lovely kids Kai and Amber Rose.

“Now Saturday Night Takeaway was Sade’s favourite show and before she passed away, she nominated you to be part of it, so everyone could see what an amazing dad you are. Jordan, it’s a privilege to honour Sade’s wish and to give you and your family a Takeaway Getaway!”

As cameras returned to the studio, Dec battled back tears as he tried to proceed with the show. With his voice cracking, he said: “The happiest minute of the week is over. There you go, everybody. See you soon!”

Those watching along at home were also floored by the emotional moment. One fan on X wrote: "Jesus Christ that happiest minute of the week needs a new name. I'm in bits." Another wrote: "Last happiest minute of the week nomination for me in floods of tears and Dec's voice cracking made it worse, what a nomination to make."

A further fan commented: "This is the reason why I love this show. @antanddec’s generosity just blows me away. Dec got emotional in that last one my baby!!" And another typed: "Crying at Saturday night takeaway," along with a string of crying face emojis.

The 2024 season of Saturday Night Takeaway is to be the last - after Ant and Dec decided to quit the show. Last month, Ant opened up to a magazine to explain why he and Dec had decided to walk away from their weekend show. He said: "We've both got children that we need to spend time with for a little bit. We need time to think and, and time to step back and look at the bigger picture and just see where we are now."

And speaking of his own changing relationship with Dec, Ant said: "We started working together when we were 13, and we became friends very quickly. But, you know, we're both, were are both 49 this year. We're obviously not the same people that we were when we were 13. So throughout our career, you know, we've both changed. But being able to maintain that friendship doesn't come naturally. Sometimes you have to work with friendships, and sometimes you have to compromise and sometimes you have to give each other space and time and whatever."
