Rio Ferdinand was left stunned when Kyle Walker admitted that he only started gym work within the last six months.

The Manchester City star is lauded by many as the greatest right-back in Premier League history. Walker though had no interest in doing the extras in the gym despite being built like an elite athlete, which he admits is largely down to his genetics.

Walker's sprint speed, which is among the quickest in the top flight, has been a key asset throughout his career. The City star has been a deadly weapon going forward but his ability to get round on the cover and save Pep Guardiola's side defensively has been part of their gameplan.

Unlike some players though Walker hasn't had to do sprint work with Ferdinand flabbergasted at how naturally gifted he is. The ex-Tottenham man claims he backs out of doing exercises like squats in fear of getting too heavy, which could slow him down.

Ferdinand was just as surprised when he realised how relaxed Walker was with his diet. The right-back said on his FIVE YouTube channel : "I like desserts - a lot. Clotted cream rice pudding from Marks and Spencer's. My pre-match meal is rice pudding, that's it. I used to eat pasta and pasta before a game but then I just felt too heavy."

He also confessed that when City head out on the road the club's chef keeps it simple. "If we travel away the chef packs me a tin of Ambrosia rice pudding and then I just have that," he said.

Walker and City are currently in the midst of trying to win a fourth title on the trot - which has never before been achieved in the top flight. The champions are battling with Liverpool, who currently sit top, and Arsenal, who faded away last season.

The Gunners have become a force in the past two years but Walker, who previously played in north London, admits he'd rather see Liverpool get the job done if City don't end up being champions. He said: "I don’t want Arsenal [to win] because of Tottenham."

He went on to say: "I think you’ve taken our assistant coach as your manager. You’ve got [Oleksandr] Zinchenko that I think is a very big part of it. And Gabi [Gabriel Jesus]. But I’ll give you credit, it’s a very, very good team now. A very good team."
