CBB's Gary Goldsmith in tears over being regarded as a ‘villain’ by the public

Celebrity Big Brother star Gary Goldsmith broke down in tears as he explained he feels he has been vilified by the British public.

The 58-year-old businessman is the brother of 69-year-old Carole Middleton - the mother of Catherine, Princess of Wales, 42. In the past, Gary has been dragged through the headlines for a range of negative reasons - including being accused of dealing drugs and assaulting one of his ex-wives during a “drunken argument”.

In scenes that aired on ITV on Friday night, Gary acknowledged he has attracted negative press in the past - and fears he has been unable to discover inner peace as a result. He opened up about his feelings during a task where all the Celebrity Big Brother contestants had to answer penetrating questions. Former This Morning host Fern Britton, 66, was the first to pick out a question and she directed it to Gary.

She asked the entrepreneur: “How have you found peace within yourself? Or are you still looking?” Gary became quickly emotional and said: “I think peace is something to always be striving for. I thought I was having a really cool life until something hits you.

“From one day I was Gary, a businessman, having a laugh with a great family and in a good place. The next minute, I’m a national villain because, erm.. if any of you thought to Google me, it is just s**t. But it’s not me. So I really don’t know what true peace is. If I’m honest.” He then shed tears and hinted the question had taken him emotionally by surprise.

Fern expressed concern for Gary and said: “I think we all say May peace be with you. Thank you!” However, not all of the other contestants were so sympathetic. Former X Factor judges Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne, both aged 71, took aim at Gary while they watched him taking part in some light yoga with some of the other housemates.

Watching Gary cross the room, Sharon exhaled: “Oh here he goes.” And Louis then exclaimed: “Oh no. F**k off.” Sharon then said: “He’s hugely uncomfortable in his own skin. He needs to go into therapy, big time. He needs to get it all out, his insecurities. Everything.”

Louis predicted Gary would lose the public vote and be evicted from the house, saying: “No chance. He will be gone tomorrow.” Before entering the house, Gary explained to reality show fans what they could expect from him and what sort of housemate he intended to be.

Speaking in VT, the businessman said: “Typically you’ll find me joking around, the centre of attention, taking the mick out of everybody. I’m a workaholic, tennis-aholic, been going to the gym for no reason apart from to look better on TV.

“In the house, I might be something of an enforcer. You can’t be mean to people. You have to be nice and polite to each other. And we’re going to be there for a while. There’s no reason why we can’t be getting on. Don’t be horrible.”
