With both King Charles and the Princess of Wales off-duty for the time being, the public has seen Queen Camilla take the lead for the first time, as she represents her husband at public events during his ongoing treatment for cancer. At the memorial service for the former king Constantine of Greece, Camilla was the most highly ranking royal in attendance, with Prince William unable to attend his godfather's memorial due to an undisclosed "personal matter".

The Queen is set to lead the royals again on Monday for the annual Commonwealth Day Service, but a royal expert has claimed that this is unlikely to have put William's nose out of joint, and instead, he will be welcoming that the duties are spread out amongst the few remaining working royals.

The expert - Michael Cole - explained to the Mail Online that, in his opinion, William won't be bothered by how the duties are split as the royals work to cover two of their key missing members. "Prince William won't worry about who does what in the Royal Family. Jealous of Queen Camilla taking a more prominent role as King Charles steps back from public duties to undergo cancer treatment? Quite the contrary.

"With his wife recovering slowly from major abdominal surgery and three young children to look after, Prince William is only too glad to see the responsibility for keeping the royal show on the road shared out between a suddenly reduced number of available working royals," the expert claimed.

The Mail also reports that there are loose plans in place going later into the summer months for Camilla to take the lead role representing her husband the King at major events like Trooping the Colour if the medical advice remains the same that the monarch should continue to avoid "public-facing duties".

There has been a huge amount of speculation about the state of Kate's health and whereabouts in recent weeks, and Cole believes that "All of that coming as Prince William confronts the real possibility of his future role as king much earlier in his father's reign than would have been hoped, adds to his burden. Heavy responsibilities have suddenly been heaped upon the shoulders of the 41-year-old heir to the throne."

These extra burdens mean that, in the expert's opinion, William will likely have been pleased that his stepmother is taking over some duties, and that "Prince William will have welcomed that, rather than resented her success, knowing the truth: if all members of the royal family shine, then that reflects a lustre on the very institution of a constitutional monarchy that has served this country so well and for so long."
