A Shetland pony stuck in a cattle grid after a walker left a gate open has been rescued by fire crews.

Teifi the horse sparked a rescue operation on Tuesday after becoming trapped in Llangatwg, Powys, Wales. The 21-year-old Shetland pony was able to reach the cattle grid after a gate was left open by walkers. Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews from Crickhowell, Talgarth and Pontardawe were called to the incident at 7.32am.

His owner, Beth Watkins, said Teifi was recovering well, and told the BBC he has has since become "quite the local celebrity". Beth added: "An amazing rescue! Thank you so much for saving Teifi. You were all fantastic.''
