Gary Neville believes that Manchester City will beat Liverpool on Sunday, but admitted that he actually wants the Reds to win.

City travel to Anfield for a massive clash at the top of the Premier League table. Earlier this season, the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium, though Liverpool have kicked on since then and now sit a point ahead of Pep Guardiola's side.

But while Jurgen Klopp's men have an advantage in the table, Neville does not believe that will transfer to the pitch on Sunday. Instead, he is confident that the visitors will have too much for the league leaders.

The Manchester United legend pointed to the injuries Klopp is dealing with as the reason behind his prediction. But he conceded that he hopes the Reds ultimately prove him wrong.

“What do you think will happen at the weekend? I think City will beat you, I want Liverpool to win because I want the league to be opened up, but I think City will win on Sunday, I think he’ll come and he’ll put a right job in,” Neville told the Overlap Fan Debate.

"I always say about Anfield, you never feel like you're alright, all of a sudden it can just go 'bang'. Something hits you and you're like 'we lost two goals there'. You're gonna win it in the first half.

"I always thought when we played, you had to damage them in the first half and make them realise that we were a real threat. I think if you go through that first half and they grow into the game, you've got a problem, but if you hit them early.

"I think City will on Sunday, I don't know why. I just think Liverpool at the moment, they're still reeling with injuries, scrambling through games like you wouldn't believe at the moment. They are scruffy as hell. They've got momentum, but I just think Sunday will be too much."

While Neville is confident City will emerge as the league leaders on Sunday, fellow pundit Jamie Carragher is backing his former side Liverpool. Carragher pointed to City's dreadful record at Anfield under Guardiola as the reason behind his prediction.

"Listen, there's been different City teams, has there been a better City team than this. You go back to the one David Silva was playing in and Aguero and they never came and won. I just the Anfield crowd," Carragher added.

"And Liverpool's team as well, you're going to see who is actually available, who can play. I think the goalkeeper is a big miss, even though the young lad's been brilliant. But Pep has a problem at Anfield.

"I think he's only come with City, never with Barcelona or Munich. But I think the only game they've won has been without a crowd under Pep in six or seven years. City's record in general, forget Pep, the record at Anfield's not great.

"I just think with the crowd and when you look at Liverpool's starting 11, which I think will not be far off first-choice on Sunday. Salah's back, Nunez is back. You actually look at the team and it's just Trent and the keeper."
