Paddy McGuinness is said to be lined up to present his own BBC Radio 2 show after he filled in for Rylan Clark.

The comedian and presenter, 50, impressed bosses and listeners when he filled in for the former X Factor star's Saturday afternoon show. It went so well that talks have since taken place with station boss Helen Thomas about a long-term role for Paddy, according to reports.

It is not yet known if Paddy would replace another broadcaster or could fit around the existing schedule. “Paddy is a natural fit for Helen’s vision of Radio 2, and is an effortless broadcaster," a source said. “He’s proven a hit with listeners since filling in for Rylan, and was brought in for talks about the future."

They added to The Sun: “Like fellow Bolton-born host Vernon Kay, Paddy’s Northern tones — and cheesy dad jokes — work well on air, and he has come up with some brilliant, innovative ideas for formats of his own.” Paddy had faced a tough time in his TV career lately as BBC’s Top Gear, A Question of Sport and I Can See Your Voice have all been axed.

However, last month he secured a new show which will see him trek around Europe for a new BBC travel series. Paddy's Channel 4 game show Tempting Fortune has been renewed for a second season - and there will be more of him on the BBC as he will also host a documentary series called Inside The Factory for BBC Two.

Last year, Paddy openly admitted he was running out of money so would be hitting the road for a stand-up tour. While on This Morning he was asked why he was touring again after eight years, he confessed: “Erm, well the money's run out now so it took about eight years to spend it all and I'm like, 'I've got to build it back up'. So weirdly, writing a tour and putting one on does take a lot of your time. When we had the breather from Top Gear, I'd been planning it for a long time, I went, 'There's a window there'. So I start it next year, but towards the back end of next year. And then it goes into 2025.”

Top Gear was pulled off air after host Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff suffered a horrific crash in December 2022 while filming the BBC motoring show. Paddy presented Top Gear alongside Freddie and TV presenter Chris Harris with the show "on pause" following the crash.

The former Take Me Out host has revealed he hasn't spoke to Freddie for the past 10 months. Speaking to The Sun, Paddy opened up about his friendship with Freddie. He said: "We were all there for him when it happened, and he got back to us all immediately after, but it’s gone quiet since then. Who knows what he must be going through."
