Matthew and his wife left Hollywood and traded it for a life with less 'drama'

The real reason Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila left Hollywood has been revealed.

The Hollywood legend and the model left the bright lights of LA for a quieter life, with less "drama" in Texas after a visit to Austin, where Matthew was raised.

The family were in Austin for several weeks to deal with a family crisis, when they made the shocking decision to make it their permanent home. Prior to that, they had a lovely life in Malibu, where Camila said she "grew everything in the yard", and added: "I had bees making honey."

After spending weeks away in Texas, Camila described something changed in her husband. She told Southern Living magazine: "The gravity is very different in Texas." They were driving back from Matthew's mum's house when it hit them that it was time for a change.

She said she saw a peaceful and energetic look on her husband's face. Camilla asked him: "You want to move don't you?" Matthew was driving at the time and said: "Yep."

After moving to Texas, with their kids Levi, 11, Vida, 10, and Livingston, 7, Camila said their lives changed for the better. "Ritual came back, whether that was Sunday church, sports, dinner together as a family every night, or staying up after that telling stories in the kitchen, sitting at the island pouring drinks and nibbling while retelling them all in different ways than we told them before. "

The family loved the slower pace of life too. Matthew said: "Time slowed down. The clock was right. The body clock."

He added: "And part of that is ritual. Part of that is just the distance between places and the way people move. But it is also the hospitality, the courtesy, the common sense, the lack of drama."

Southern life is certainly suiting them as husband and wife duo Matthew and Camila launched a new tequila with a tongue-in-cheek campaign that saw them go pantless.

Their new joint tequila brand, Pantalones Organic Tequila, came with a cheeky line from the couple who claimed it's "the best thing we’ve made with our pants on".

The couple, who married in 2012, shared a launch video for the tequila which features the pair of them riding motorbikes together and walking along hand in hand completely pantless with their bottom half blurred. In the video, Matthew turns and asks his wife: "When did tequila stop being tequila?"

The Pantalones Tequila portfolio includes three bottles in the range of "super premium organic tequila"; the Blanco, Reposado, and Añejo. The Blanco is described as giving off "notes of honey and citrus". The Reposado is aged for nine months and has a fruitier and fresh oak edge, while the Añejo is aged for 15 months and has highlights flavours of vanilla, butterscotch, and maple.

According to a release for the new tequila brand, the couple shared: "The world doesn't need another celebrity tequila, but tequila sure could use a kick in the pants. Pantalones Organic Tequila is the best thing we've made with our pants on."
