BBC Scotland has announced that presenter Nick Sheridan has died at the age of 32.

The award-winning presenter's death was announced online by the BBC on Thursday morning, with bosses reporting the TV star died following a 'short illness'. In a statement, Gary Smith, Head of News and Current Affairs, said: "Nick has been a wonderful colleague. He was a hugely talented journalist, presenter and author and one of those rare people who light up the lives of everyone around them. Our hearts go out to his parents, to his partner and to all his family and friends."

Nick's loved ones and co-workers have paid touching tributes to the late presenter and called him the 'brightest human being'. It's believed that Nick was out running when he reportedly suffered a suspected aneurysm and collapsed. An aneurysm is a bulging, tweaked area in the wall of a blood vessel.

His friend and fellow award-winning presenter, Connor Gillies, remarked: "A uniquely talented broadcaster, writer and journalist but above all a throughout decent, funny, thoughtful pal who was great fun. An absolute pleasure knowing Nick. He thought of everyone before himself. Will forever remember the outrageous antics on a night out."

Amy Irons, known best for hosting BBC Scotland's headline news show The Nine, expressed her deep sadness, stating: "Absolutely devastated. The world has lost one of its brightest human beings and journalism has lost one of the most talented people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. We are all going to miss you so much Nick."

Lewis Main, who was helped by Nick early in his career, said: "This is so so sad. Nick became part of my life during my final stages at university and was a huge help to me before I got my first job at the BBC, for that I am forever grateful. My condolences go out to his family and closest friends."

Nick's workmates and pals have been there for his family, but he also made a mark on viewers' hearts. Lots of people are saying nice things about him online.

One person said: "Can't believe what I am reading this morning. My thoughts are with all of Nick's family and friends. Just devastated." While another echoed: "Nick seemed like such an incredible person and talent. So sad to hear this shocking news. He was taken far too young."

"Devastating news. My love goes out to Nick's family and friends at this horrible time," another social media user shared. While another gushed: "I had the pleasure of meeting Nick a number of years ago and he was so wise beyond his years with a magic sparkle in his eyes and a passion for his job. Amazing writer. He'll be missed."

Nick hailed from Wexford, Ireland, and had more than ten years of experience in news stories. He received his journalism degree from Dublin City University in 2010.

He had previously spent two years reporting and presenting RTE News2day, the young person's news programme for Ireland's national broadcaster, before moving to the main newsroom where he worked on the foreign affairs desk for three years.

After that, Nick moved to Glasgow and worked for STV News and then the BBC. Nick had an incredibly successful career at such a young age, and penned three books in his career. Not long ago, he was the Consumer Affairs Correspondent for BBC News in Scotland and hosted a news review show called Seven Days.
