Emmerdale fans have questioned an odd new plot twist they believe could air on the ITV soap.

Amid drama between Gus and his ex Rhona Goskirk, viewers are wondering if they have rumbled his real plan and whether it involves his wife Lucy who recently died on the show. Lucy tragically passed away months ago, during the birth of their daughter Ivy.

While her death was not shown on screen, nurses informed Gus and Rhona that Lucy had died after the birth of Ivy. Now, some fans are questioning if Gus' most recent actions amid a plan to flee to France, and the decision for Ivy to live with Lucy's parents, could hint at a twist.

While it's unlikely, some fans can't help but question whether Lucy is alive after all, and they possibly faked her death to stop Rhona taking legal action over Lucy and Gus stealing her embryos to have a child together. Viewers will recall that last year, Rhona found out Gus and his partner Lucy were expecting a baby despite them telling Rhona months earlier that they were having fertility issues and could not conceive a child.

Years earlier, Rhona and Gus had had IVF treatment which led to them freezing some embryos, but when they split up Rhona assumed they were destroyed. Gus stopped this from happening, before asking if he and Lucy could use them a year ago.

Rhona declined, but Gus forged her signature and Lucy fell pregnant with his and Rhona's embryo. Since then Rhona has developed a bond with Ivy and wants to be part of her biological daughter's life.

Gus wanted to stop this, wanting to move away with his child and not seeing Rhona as Ivy's mother. Grieving for Lucy, Gus even lied to Rhona after she fled with the baby in a recent episode, leading to her being arrested for kidnapping her.

As both of them faced trouble with the police, Gus decided to come to a compromise suggesting they both change their statements so that neither of them had to go to court. Gus also claimed he would call off the move and come to an agreement with her over access to her daughter.

But Rhona soon realised he was lying and that his plans had not changed at all, resulting in her vowing to get Ivy home with her. But some fans have come up with a new theory over Gus' reasons for making the drastic move away from the UK.

Some fans are wondering if Lucy is alive after all, and maybe she and Gus faked her death so they could start a new life together with Ivy without the threat of Rhona taking legal action over her embryos being stolen. Taking to social media, one fan posted: "I don't think his wife Lucy died."

Another posted: "Maybe Lucy is in France and that’s why he’s going with Ivy.” A third wrote: "She could have been in a coma and Gus just said she died so Rhona wouldn’t report them for stealing the embryos and her passport and forging her signature?"

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on , , , , , and .
