Gladiators semi-final absent from schedule in shake-up ahead of final episode
There are just a few episodes of Gladiators left until the much anticipated grand final of the BBC's reboot's debut series.
The beloved show, which is now hosted by Bradley Walsh and his son Barney Walsh, returned to our screens two months ago following a more than a decade-long absence. There are now only three episodes left of the latest series.
The first semi-final will be broadcast on Saturday, with a second and the subsequent grand final expected in the coming weeks. It's however been announced that the second semi-final won't be broadcast the following weekend. It would likely have aired on March 16 but doesn't feature in the BBC's schedule for that evening or anytime that weekend.
The episode is believed to have been moved due to the FA Cup. Coverage of the quarter-final match at the Etihad Stadium between Manchester City and Newcastle United is due to be broadcast from 5.10pm to 7.40pm, covering Gladiators' usual slot in the BBC's schedule that evening.
According to the current schedule, Michael McIntyre's the Wheel will air immediately after the football coverage. The host is set to be joined by Katherine Ryan, Asim Chaudhry, Vanessa Feltz, Steve Pemberton, Kate Garraway, Ainsley Harriott and Phil Tufnell on that episode of the quiz show.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessIt's due to be followed by Pointless Celebrities at 8.40pm. Larry Dean, Holly Walsh, Desiree Burch, Jessica Fostekew, Morgan Lake, Ashleigh Nelson, Beatie Edney and Michelle Collins are listed as the contestants in that episode. Casualty is set to air in its usual slot, with the episode that weekend scheduled to start at 9.25pm. The show is due to be followed by BBC Weekend News and a weather update, ahead of a Match of the Day episode from 10.35pm.
Gladiators returned for its reboot in January. The original series was broadcast on ITV from 1992 to 2000. There was later a revival on Sky One from 2008 to 2009. Following its return, the Mirror spoke to former Gladiators Michael Van Wijk, known as 'Wolf', and Jennifer Stoute, known as 'Rebel,' about their experiences on the game show's original series.
The former participants also spoke about the reboot, with Michael telling the Mirror: "I'm very proud of the guys who are the new Gladiators because I look upon them as brother and sister Gladiators. I'm pleased for them. [...] It's time for them to shine now and I just wish them all the best."
Gladiators continues this Saturday (March 9) on BBC One and BBC iPlayer from 5.50pm. Previous episodes are available through the streaming platform ahead of the first semi-final being broadcast this weekend.
