Regularly named the 'hardest working royal' for the number of engagements she undertakes each year, Princess Anne visited the United Arab Emirates this week as part of her royal duties. And one outfit she donned while she was there absolutely stole the show.

Anne's no-fuss approach to her official duties, and clear similarities to her ever-popular late mother, Queen Elizabeth, have all contributed to her making her such a popular figure in the Royal Family. She regularly comes in higher on opinion polls than her brother, King Charles.

Fashion scrutiny from royal watchers is more often reserved for Meghan and Kate, but this trip to the UAE saw Anne attract attention for a special look she wore.

The outfit in question was a dress that she first wore over 40 years ago - and not many people can still manage to pull off the same looks they did in their twenties.

The frock was first seen when Anne wore it during the state visit of President Khama of Botswana in 1978, aged just 26, according to OK Magazine.

The piece features a pleated skirt and a self-belt which creates a fitted waist. This, coupled with the neat bodice, offers a classic fitted to flowing silhouette.

The gently puffed short sleeves and subtle fabric-covered Dorset buttons add to its lasting vintage appeal and it is cut from a fabric in aquamarine with a checked pattern appearing on the top half.

Anne also opted for this favoured piece when she attended Royal Ascot last year, where she paired it with a cropped white jacket, beige heels, and a matching blue hat.

In recent years the royals have opted for re-wears more often, as the idea of sustainability in fashion has become more part of the public consciousness since the rise of fast-fashion brands and their often unethical practices.

Anne visited the UAE as part of her role as the President of the Mission to Seafarers - a role she has held since 1984. She visited the Jebel Ali Port - one of the busiest in the region - where she learned about its operations and the technology used there.

She then attended a Women in Shipping and Trading Conference where she listened to a panel discussion and also opened the Donnelly Lines Facilities at Al-Minhad Air Base, which will provide support to British servicepeople at the base, and toured the Dubai Offshore Sailing Club as part of her role as the President of the Royal Yachting Association.
