Mum charged with murder of her 10-year-old daughter
A mum charged with the murder of her 10-year-old daughter, whose body was found in Rowley Regis on Monday, has appeared in court.
Jaskirat Kaur was remanded in custody accused of killing Shay Kang, who was found with serious injuries at an address in the town around 12.10pm on Monday. The youngster, who attended Brickhouse Primary School was pronounced dead at the scene.
Kaur, also known as Jasmine Kang, 33, appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court later today. She was dressed in a grey T-shirt and jogging bottoms, and spoke only to confirm her name and date of birth. She was ordered to appear for a further hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Thursday.
She was not required to indicate any plea to the murder charge, which alleges she unlawfully killed Shay on Monday.
Shay is believed to have lived in the house with her mum., but the girl had reportedly been in care until just days before her death, some residents claimed. She had been seen playing with children in the cul-de-sac on Sunday evening, several hours before police were called to the property.

In a statement, Brickhouse Primary School said: “Our school is deeply saddened by the tragic death of one of our children. Shay was a bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well liked by all, and she will be very sadly missed by everyone. School is the heart of the community and we have already begun working with our children and staff to support them following this devastating news."
Detective Inspector Dan Jarratt, of West Midlands Police, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our thoughts remain with Shay's family and friends. Her tragic death has had a profound impact on those who knew her as well as the wider community.
