A Las Vegas hotel is facing looming legal action after a man claimed his testicles were stung by a scorpion while sleeping.

Michael Farchi of Agoura Hills, California, alleges he woke up in excruciating pain during his stay at the Las Vegas hotel, The Venetian Resort, on Boxing Day. “I just felt like somebody stabbing me in my private area,” he said. “It felt like a sharp glass or a knife.”

Farchi said he found the source of the pain after he got up to look. “I went to the restroom and saw a scorpion hanging on my underwear,” Farchi said. The incident led him and his family to check out earlier than planned while the hotel made no charge for his room, but not before he took pictures of the scorpion. The hotel's rooms average around $400 a night.

When asked if he knew how it managed to get into his hotel room, he said he did not. “I didn’t even ask how it got in the room,” Farchi added. “It was just under my cover.”

Farchi filed an incident report with the Venetian Resort Las Vegas, saying that he had been “bitten by a scorpion on my groin/testicles” around 8am”. The report indicated he told staff he was in “a lot of pain” and blamed The Venetian for his pain, adding that the scorpion “was in the bed when” he was sleeping.

Farchi said he was diagnosed with a sting “at an area hospital following the incident.” “Everybody was in shock, nobody believed,” he added. “Even I couldn’t believe it.” Describing his client's 'traumatic' experience, Farchi's attorney Brian Virag said: "When you check into a hotel you expect to be safe."

He continued: "I'm certain that The Venetian - like every major hotel - has policies and procedures in place to avoid something like this." "However," he added, "it's one thing to have policies and procedures in place, its another thing to make sure they're followed."

Farchi said he is now considering legal action. In response, The Venetian Resort Las Vegas said: “The resort has protocols for all incidents, and we can confirm they were followed in this incident.”
