Dan Wootton issues statement as he exits GB News amid Ofcom ruling

Dan Wootton has left GB News after he was initially suspended over his controversial Laurence Fox debate where the former actor publicly degraded journalist Ava Evans.

The broadcaster took to Twitter (X) this evening to announce his formal exit from GB News and share details of his new media venture. Writing to his followers for the first time in months, Wootton said: "I have left GB News to launch my own independent platform Dan Wootton Outspoken which will feature a brand new daily news and opinion show from later this year that will NOT be regulated by the Ofcommunist censors. Free speech in Britain is in peril!"

Wootton's tweet comes hours on from the media watchdog Ofcom ruling that “misogynistic” comments made on his show broke broadcasting rules, with Byline Times later reporting that Wootton has been axed from his £600,000-a-year presenting role with the broadcaster.

GB News sent an internal email to those in the company regarding Wootton's exit, which reads: "Dan Wootton joined GB News before its launch and was a part of the first on-air line up. Dan is no longer employed by GB News and we thank him for his contribution and wish him well with his future endeavours."

"However, yesterday's chilling Ofcom report clearly raises far bigger issues. How can any broadcaster or publisher truly stand for freedom of expression when state goons have the power to decide what you are and are not allowed to say on air? Unlike the freedoms enjoyed in the US thanks to the First Amendment, how can these media outlets ever be anything other than controlled opposition?

"As the epitome of the deep state Liz Truss spoke about last week, the Ofcommunists have once again shown themselves to be a muzzle that bows to the woke mob and only attacks those with whom it ideologically disagrees. Post Office investigators, HMRC, the Police: the country is full of organisations that have gone rogue and disobey the directives of ministers and the will of Parliament."

He concluded: "It's not broadcasters who should be fearful of a carpeting from Ofcom: it's Ofcom that should be summoned in by this supposedly Conservative government to be reined in." Wootton's Twitter (X) bio now reads: "The real stories and opinions the MSM are censoring with No Spin, No Bias and No Censorship. Brand new daily show coming soon...LET'S GO!"

Just one day after Wootton, 40, a day after he was suspended from GB News, his contract with the MailOnline terminated a day after he was suspended from GB News. In a statement, a spokesperson for DMG Media, the parent company of MailOnline, said: "Following events this week, DMG Media can confirm that Dan Wootton's freelance column with MailOnline – which had already been paused – has now been terminated, along with his contract."

In September, New Zealand-born Wootton had been slapped with a suspension from the network which is said to champion "free speech". In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), the network said: "GB News has suspended Dan Wootton following comments made on his programme by Laurence Fox last night. This follows our decision earlier today to formally suspend Mr Fox. We are conducting a full investigation."

During the GB News broadcast, Wootton and Fox discussed Ava Evans' comments made by the former LBC producer during her appearance on the BBC with the journalist attracting attention due to her remarks about men's mental health. Following her appearance on the BBC show, Ms Evans tweeted: "I was a little rash on my anti-minister for men comments which I do regret and am actually very interested in a brief for a minister on young me's mental health."

Fox appeared on Dan Wootton Tonight, during which the actor-turned-aspiring politician . During the broadcast, Fox described Ms Evans as a "little woman" and declared: "We don't need these sort of feminist 4.0" who, he said, are "pathetic and embarrassing", adding: "Who would want to shag that?"

Initially, Wootton said he said he wanted to "reiterate his regret" over his interaction with Fox as he was seen laughing over the actor's comments. He added: "Having looked at the footage, I can see how inappropriate my reaction to his totally unacceptable remarks appears to be and want to be clear that I was in no way amused by the comments.
